: focus vs civic... cheaper?
Mik3Svt 06-14-2009, 11:40 PM Hi..
I am new here at FF and at US too...
I am thinking about to buy a car... I like the focus cause in my country i had a focus duratec... but now here I want to get a car...maybe a svt, zetec or duratec... but.. i know here in US there is a biggg afermarket for honda and therefore civic....
Which car is cheaper to prepare... maybe N/A or maybe turbo...???
Sorry for asking this but I want to build a car and I want to know which is chepar... but I like ford and i like focus.... and I want prepare a car with turbo...
thx
Paladin 06-15-2009, 01:06 AM in the end the civic will always be cheaper. its been around a lot longer.
i dont know if you owned one back where you lived. or what year it was. but most civics that can be picked up used have icky nasty torsion beam rear ends. (that it s a bad thing, it's jsut not independent) and a motor that has like no bawls.
eliaslincoln 06-15-2009, 12:30 PM ^^yep civic is going to be cheaper, been around so long there's so many parts tons of parts. on the other hand, a turbo focus is way cooler in my opinion. But finding someone to tune the focus well when it is turbo is also going to be hard to find. but in the end it will come down to which one you want. i'd say get an SVT and put a supercharger on it. thats a solid plan.
bigjordan 06-15-2009, 12:53 PM but most civics that can be picked up used have icky nasty torsion beam rear ends. (that it s a bad thing, it's jsut not independent).
that is absolutely 100% incorrect. every civic sold in the US since 1988 has had independent rear suspension.
ThatOneFocusGuy 06-15-2009, 01:31 PM Civic would be cheaper but a turbo Focus would be more rare and unique than a turbo Civic.
jmiller_1974 06-15-2009, 02:13 PM First off, welcome to FF
Civics, not coincidentally, are like grains of rice, They all look the same. You want a cheap build, but I feel You will regret buying a Civic. Of course asking a question like this on a site created by and for Focus enthusiasts is going to be very one-sided. Especially as most Ford People and Honda People(generally) don't frequent the same circles on this side of the Pond.
rambleon84 06-15-2009, 02:53 PM It will be easier to find parts for the civic and easier to find people to tune them.
The focus will be more fun, you will have better handling and have a turbo car that not many people have. If you liked your focus you previous had, get another one
I am sure if you post a similar comment on a Honda based site you will have everyone saying you should go with the civic, probably even bash the focus some.
djblackout 06-15-2009, 03:02 PM i got rid of my boosted d16 97 civic hatch. I used a d16y8 [civic ex] block and mated the d16y7 [non vtec] head onto it.
the civic was cheap as hell. I got the turbo kit and tuning done for under 1700$. thats cost of everything. you can frequent honda forums and find good deals on bov's, wastegates, manifolds, charge piping...etc
in the end the civic will be cheaper.
however. I LOVE MY SVT fo fo, even if it runs a couple seconds slower in the 1320s
also...if you plan to build the motor...this is a proven setup for reliable power...
vitara pistons and whatever rods you want...eagle, scat..etc
NON VTEC HEAD
bottom end doesnt matter, you can use vtec block or non, they are both the same
make sure you get the "vtec" transmission. Its out of 96-00 civic EX's. It will give you an awesome gearing for the quarter mile. Its actually regarded as the best transmission you can get from 92-00.
MAKE SURE YOU GET RID OF THE PCV SYSTEM. Youll need to make a catch can setup or youll end up screwing up your build.
darkostoj 06-16-2009, 01:04 PM im gonna have to say civic. whatever you do dont buy a focus with an spi engine since the #4 piston will explode on it
JibLxA 06-17-2009, 02:33 PM Civic os cheaper and honestly way to common/boring. Focus would be more fun and you would feel happier about it in the end. And as a focus driver, racing and beating a civic is the greatest.
But in the end go with what you feel, thats what matters.
Roland07 06-17-2009, 02:44 PM The Focus is a much more unique and interesting car. It'll be more expensive to build, but there are companies out there with -quality- stuff for it.
Master-Baits 06-18-2009, 11:28 PM go with what makes you the happiest. +1 on hondas being inexpensive (comparitively) to build
