I just got an 06 ZX4 ST automatic from the dealer with Ford's nifty 100,000 mile warranty. I want to work on my car this summer but I'm wondering what I'm allowed to do to it without voiding my warranty?

Not much. I have heard of dealers throwing a fit over a K&N intake, short throw shifters, and aftermarket exhausts. But then again I have heard of others that were cool with all of that stuff and more. I guess it kinda depends on your dealership.

I would play it safe and stick with stock for a while ( I know, it sucks. But do you want to pay for those expensive repairs?) or you could always talk to your service manager about what is allowed. If I remember right, as long as its got the FORD name stamped on it, it is okay. Dont quote me on that though.

Hopefully someone else in here can chime in, I dont have any personal experiance with warranties.

When did they make STs in automatics... didn't think they did. Did someone modify it and drop an auto tranny in it?

They didn't, all ST's came with 5 speeds. Perhaps it's an SES with a SAP.

Like everyone else is saying, if it's an auto, it's not an ST.

also with modding, if what you are modding and it breaks, hte dealership HAS TO PROVE without a doubt that the part you put in casued the problem... thats why im not doing too much to mine because i think my dealer is a pain in the ass. hes a great guy personally but all of his employees are kinda horses a**es

The Mazdaspeed guys are running into this problem a lot. I doubt Ford America is as anal-retentive as Mazda USA is, but nonetheless, take it easy with the mods.

If you want to play into the ultimate paranoia, get mods that you can remove. Granted, Exhaust won't be replaceable back to stock, but little things like a Superchip, intake, throttle body, -are- demoddable. If you have to take it in, just pop the mods off.
