I just recently bought my first Ford Focus and it was an auto and I've been looking into changing it to a manual cause I can't seem to find any manual Hatchbacks on any websites near here.(Richmond, VA). I've never done anything with a transmission or nor do I know much about them so I'm hesitating on what I should do cause I would like to get a manual just can't seem to find one near here so was curious if anyone could tell me like what parts are needed I know some of them, and whether or not I should go through with this since I've never really done anything like this or if anyone would want to volunteer to help me out if I decide to go through with it, All Help is Appreciated Thanks!

There has to be one for sale, somewhere. That's a BIG project.

Converting auto to manual is possible. This has been done quite a few times with the ZTEC and is well documented. Check out these links:
Detailed parts list found here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153256
Another GREAT post about this: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159071

I didn't say it wasn't possible. He clearly said, "I've never done anything with a transmission or nor do I know much about them so I'm hesitating on what I should do cause I would like to get a manual just can't seem to find one near here so...". Just be careful. Yourself, and the car.

It is a big project, I would suggest hitting the books on this one, and hitting them hardcore.

ask mike at hillbish ford, he can do them very easily and will tell you everything you'll need

if you have everything and i do mean EVERYTHING you need for the swap and you properly do your homework and prep work this can be done in a day. i would do things like mounting the clutch pedal, running and zip tieing lines before the day of though so that all you have to do is swap trannies. if you do this i would suggest snagging a lightweight flywheel, decent clutch kit, and possibly LSD for the tranny while its out. torsen or quaife LSD's pretty much make these trannies bullet proof. you dont have to swap ECU's for this to work, just make sure the computer thinks the car is in neutral/park. however if you ever want to get a tune for the car afterwards you probably will have to change out the ECU. that would be something to take up with tom/1turbofocus or randy from focus sport as to whether or not they could tune an automatic ecu for a manual tranny.
