: the quest for ethanol free gas!

i'm on a quest for ethanol free gas!for those who are in the dark on this our gov. passed a law to force all gas stations to put 10% ethanlon in all there gas. it's bad for small engins like mowers and outboards, it's unsafe for airplanes. it makes gas mileage drop. and can cause spark knock. so i'm looking for anywhere i can get 93 octane with 0% ethanol. it seems impossible! but it's got to be out there. i got a tune for 93. the only ethanol free gas i found so far is aviation fuel and it's 100 octane at $4 a gallon. they have to put it in a can cause it's illegal to fuel cars with it[shhh] (some tax thing). i don't know if it would be good or bad for my tune. i thought of cutting it with 87 octane to get 5% ethanol but it would be cool to run it strait![headbang] i'm curios about what this will spark.[popcorn]

As far as aviation fuel, it's not a tax thing. But if you still have the cat on your car, plan on replacing it. Aviation fuel is leaded. This is the reason they aren't supposed to use it in vehicles, it screws up cats and o2 sensors.
And where your getting your bad ethanol info I have no idea.
Ethanol is used to raise octane ratings in fuel. But it does reduce milage, altho at 10% it should be negligable.

well, i googled ethanol, effects of ethanol and i found more bad things about it then good, like someone sued for the ethanol in the gas ruined the fiberglass on his boat. the millage is a big deal too, it's dangerous for airplanes that's why i was looking at aviation fuel but if it has lead in it then i will keep looking. the reason i posted this here is that i this sections been kinda slow laitly, and the main thing i wanted to know is how would 100 octane effect my 93 octane tune, or if it (lead aside) would be harmful for my engine.[paranoid] pete, i know, you showed me that before, but it's just one article one study, maybe there wrong.

Av. Gas is mixed diff then Auto fuels , Av. gas is for HIGH loads and LOW RPM and Auto fuel is for LOW load and HIGH RPM and specific gravity is a big deal as well
Leaded fuel is bad for the CAT over time but takes a long time to hurt the o2 from what I have seen
I would find 100 auto fuel , Higher octane does in no way hurt your engine if the octane is higher then it needs to be to keep the engine safe it only hurts your wallet
Keep in mind we have a knock sensor that can add timing IF it is safe to do so with higher octane the ECU can safely add timing if the ECU sais it is safe to do so and could make slightly more HP/TQ

try a "mobil" gas station, the ones a round here don't have ethanol.

so for mobil, bp, shell are the top three possible sources for ethanol free gas. the problem is, if it's less then 10% they don't have to mark it on the pumps,[paranoid] and not many attendants know the ethanol content of there gas. [smackbum]

Everyone is right.
Ethanol does increase octane and hence knock resistance. e10 as found in most pumps is cheap way to bump up octane numbers (when subsidized). There is a negligible difference between e10 an 100% gas when at lower octanes (100 or less). However, it does make a large difference when dealing with oxygenated (high ethanol content) race fuels when shooting for low knock and high HP.
Just run what you can get in the best octane level you can get and don't worry about it. NO LEAD, it will kill your wide/narrowband sensor, and your cats.

so, when you have e10, the overall octane rating of the fuel is raised, but the octane of the base fuel is lower than it would be in straight gasoline at that octane (plus detergents). So, when you buy e10 93 octane, you might be getting say, some 110 octane ethanol with a bunch of 91-92 octane gasoline. In combustion, the 91-92 will ignite first, and possibly outside the flame front (knock).
