: Turbocharged Pushrod V8...From Ford???
DrkKnight614 04-05-2009, 01:18 PM http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/05/ford-applies-for-patent-on-turbocharged-pushrod-v8/
Check out the link, kinda interesting that Ford wants to patent a pushrod v8 with a turbo on it. Will it make it to production, will it be a great engine, will it be just as good as those amazing LS engines? Who knows, but hope so. The pushrod from GM is an amazing engine, producing a lot of power while still being very fuel effiecent.
Klondike 04-05-2009, 03:59 PM interesting, i hope it works for ford, def be nice to see the stang come with more then 350hp stock
mlbbaseball 04-05-2009, 05:34 PM would be nice, but i'm not holding my breath.
BobBernard 04-05-2009, 05:55 PM Nice, and I'm holding my breath.
WUGcatsvt 04-05-2009, 05:57 PM Their going to patent it and then Hide it. We will never see them.
scrammer 04-05-2009, 06:09 PM another word on the LS engine's fuel effieciency...took a WS6 down to Martinsville for the race few weeks back. car got 32mpg!!!!!!! i was like whoa
killer ZETEC 04-06-2009, 04:33 AM pushrod's are old school tech and can make a car a lot cheaper less cams to run and such things like that = less cash to build engine. all in all this seems solid and if it's turboed it'll only make it easier to have a two/3 valve head wit hone intake cam (centered. and exhaust cams on the heads.
ineedtafocus 04-06-2009, 11:15 AM the article said it will probably be ford's new diesel motor -the Scorpion-
NJKen 04-08-2009, 12:24 AM It is the scorpion diesel and it is real. It will be in all super duty trucks (with the diesel option of course)for the 2010 model year. The exhaust valves are center because a compound turbo setup sits rite between the heads. It is rumored to hit the streets at 350hp and somewhere near 700 FtLb of torque.

killer ZETEC 04-08-2009, 12:28 AM sweet. cool to know
stivo 04-08-2009, 02:02 AM pushrod torque down low, turbo HP up top... sounds like it would be a beast of an engine. too bad it's the wrong time to come out with a new v8 with the economy and gas prices on everyone's mind.

Guess thats why itll only be offered in vehicals that actually need this kind of engine, hence super dutys used for work, instead of some moms explorer.
350hp....thats not that....HOLY CRAP 700 ft/lbs of tq.
The new 2011 Super Duty....now with enough towing capacity you can drag aircraft carriers.
Peregrine 04-08-2009, 11:58 AM ^ nice finishing statement...lol
NJKen 04-08-2009, 03:48 PM ^^ X2[woot]
People who need the diesel power will continue to buy them no matter what the price of diesel is. We use these trucks at work and most of them run a PTO of some kind.. Gas engines just dont hold up as well as diesel. I have my SD because I tow big, heavy, and far. Diesel has nice longevity, decent power, and better milage while towing than a gas motor
i really wish we could get a diesel Focus over here already.

NJKen 04-08-2009, 03:51 PM I went back and looked up the specs on this motor, I was wrong
390 HP and 720FtLb of torque[strongman] I cant wait to drive one of these things[hihi]

greddy339 04-08-2009, 05:08 PM when i first saw the pic of the turbo v8..reminded me of the old 85 grand nationals that had the turbo on top of the intake manifold
Peregrine 04-10-2009, 08:53 AM ^ I'll take a turbo GNX as well!
greddy339 04-11-2009, 02:37 PM you and me both! my first spanking/humilation came to an 87 GN!
me and my buddy was in my ls1 camaro ss 6speed..i have a cam, intake, and other usual bolt ons..i dyno'd at 406 rwhp..
so there we was cruising down the 79south to my brothers house..when i see a black car with square headlight fast approching me! he pulls up beside me and it's some old dude in his 50's with just the biggest smile like he just won the lottery!
he rolls down the window and ask's if we wunna run em! of couse im not going to turn down a run with a GN! i downshift to 2nd at round 60mph.. 3 honks and off we go..i insteantly pull about 3 cars on him, and i thought to myself, hmmm he must be stock!
well all of a sudden i heard this huge swirrling sound of his turbo and he pulled past me nearly sucking the paint off my car on the way by! i was mortafied! hehee..lesson learned!
Captain Moonpie 04-11-2009, 08:40 PM We wont see it in production cars, but I am sure it will be an available as a crate motor.

I did aftertreatment testing with the scorpion. The numbers you stated are about right, 360 and 700 at the fly is what we got. Its a 6.7L, and everythings in the valley...turbos, intake, and exhaust. Theres a GM diesel thats just like that design i remember reading awhile back. Documentation said its a 2010 model, and its made "inhouse" by Ford, not International like all the other Ford diesels. Engineer said the two companies have been fueding. We ended up sending it back, blew the rear main..then the crank walked. If i remember right, it would spin up around 3800rpm. We also had a Land Rover sourced 4.4L twin turbo diesel that Ford was going to use (believe in F150), but we never ended up testing it... They wanted it back. Fords doind almost all theyre testing inhouse now.
