: Cummins 4bt in a focus?
03-24-2009, 09:11 AM
OK guys, hold back on the laughs for a second haha. I am thinking about buying a cummins 4bt and put it into my foci! i know a bunch of hilbilie cowboys lol and from what im hearing its gona work. Ill need a new trany prolly stifer front suspension, new axel to make it rear wheel drive, and a few odds and ends. Lol if i pull this off i could be running 400hp with 20psi of boost! TALK ABOUT SEX![pray][race][:D][wrenchin][ohcrap][woot][neener][scratch]

..... You realize these barely fit in some of the full sized trucks they swap them into?
Plus the weight is retarded and yes you would need to conver to rwd.
Honestly not a good idea but i do like those motors. On of them in an old jeep or s10 would be nice but they dont fit well in an s10 either :D

Honestly, im not trying to bust your bubble or anything like that, i swear. But why would you even try that? Physically, how, especially vertically. Also, it would weigh probably 1/3 the total weight of the car. Without extensive, and complete redesigning of the whole car, it wouldnt be safe to drive being that front end heavy. Wouldnt it just be easier, and cheaper to build the zetec with a turbo?

Being the 4bt dry weight is 700 pounds, yes you'll need some serious frame work. Far as dimensions go There is no way, 26" long x 27" wide x 32" tall.
and in the world of diesel hp is irrelevant. TQ is where the real fun is.
One diesel you may be able to stuff in there is the old chevy 350 diesel, came in more cars than trucks. Figuring if you can fit a 302 and a 4.6DOHC the 350 isn't that dimensionally different. Oil pan will be the hang up though.

ahhh that chevy diesel is junk hahaha got to go with cummins power baby ive owd a 94 and currently own a 93 cummins, my dad has an 03 twin turbos all the goods!!!, my brother own a 94, and is building a 10sec 95cummins like 1000hp he has 20000into it no turbos or pump yet....but anyway if you did that it would be nuts you could build that motor to like 450hp and be able to drive it every day
03-24-2009, 05:14 PM
look at this nasty 4bt!!!! can you say 700hp
it would be pretty hard to do but anything can be done if you want to spend the time and $$
03-24-2009, 09:16 PM
Lol yea we have been looking at it for a while. Don't think i will acually do it although if it worked it would be funny as hell! Could you imagine walking by a focus and it starting up like a diesel lolol. But im trying to figure out something to do this summer, i will prolly just build my zetec, unless it gets sold so i could get my dream Subie WRX!
03-25-2009, 01:30 PM
i'm aiming togo over the 400whp bar with my zetec with 20 psi of boost! and still street drive it... if hks can get 475whp out of a zetec, then why can't i touch 400!?! i don't think u need a diesel for those numbers[slap] + 4 the cumming 400 isn't much of a mark.[smackbum][cheers]
03-25-2009, 08:38 PM
lol yeh but 20lb of boost with a diesel is nothn im push 53lb with my truck, my brothers truck will prob be around 100, for a 450hp 4bt on #2diesel only ur lookn at like 60-70lb of boost depending on if you get head work done or if you just dump a crapload of fuel and just throw a huge charger on it. boost with a diesel is different then a gasser
03-25-2009, 08:44 PM
thats sitn in my shop right now lol i could sell it to you to put it on there hahaha and yeh thats a 2x4 in the intake

Diesel sucks, do the V8 conversion like the few guys on here did.
03-26-2009, 10:58 AM
I have a Cummins in my truck... you need to remember with that 400hp you only have around 3k rpms of engine speed.

Diesel sucks, do the V8 conversion like the few guys on here did.
lol i guess you know nothing about diesels if your saying that diesels suck...also i think he wanted to come up with something that other people havnt done and if you put a built cummins 4bt in there i bet it would kill a v8 focus in a race if you have 450hp youd be around 700 750tq
03-26-2009, 01:21 PM
hmmmm...diesel... i want a ram2500 cummins.. give me them stacks.
03-26-2009, 01:58 PM
With 400hp you'll have something like 800 torque!!
03-26-2009, 05:14 PM
welp with the 6 it would be about 800tq with the 4bt i think it will be less...dude sucks my buddy had a stack kit for 75$ a 5in box he welded up it was pretty nice 2 5in flat black mitres he just sold it
03-26-2009, 05:21 PM
Lol ill take that turbo and use it when i build my engine hahahahahaha
03-26-2009, 06:00 PM
yeh ull have to make a custom 5in exhaust to match the outlet on the turbo haha i wish i could run that on my svt
03-26-2009, 09:25 PM
thats a fail for saying that [thumbd]
my reasoning...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbd26N1u7gI....and thats not even fast
03-26-2009, 09:50 PM
funny thing my buddy has an 01 2500 he drives every day....runs it at atco 12.6fuel only does 12.4w watermeth
heres a vid of a cummins running in the 10s on a regular body, i mean built engine in a regular truck body no weight reduction
hmm sub 10sec cummins
omg theres MORE!!! 7sec CUMMINS RAIL
tell me diesels suck hahaha

1312HP CUMMINS POWERD FORD
03-26-2009, 10:06 PM
alright just to prove my point heres another 1200hp cummins powerd ford
look at this 4wd launch with a lifted truck
wow 11.42 with a crew cab long bed lifted on 35in tires lol
03-26-2009, 10:54 PM
Okay who ever says diesel sucks. I have two things.
1. Go to you tube and watch built corvettes and vipers get smoked by a 2500 truck.
2. I was in my brother in law's 3500 Ram Four Door Long Bed with duals. This thing is half as done up as his daily driver 3500 Four Door Short bed. But any way. We pulled out of a parking lot, this truck (with all 4 wheels in the back spinning) was side ways at the lock for three blocks before he got out of it.
On another day, we pulled up next to a Cobra. Well lets say he beat us the first light because we were stuck spinning the duals. The next light, in 4WD (or 6 depending on how you view it) The cobra had nothing but black smoke to eat.
Thats why diesel is awesome.
Can anyone tell I'm a farm kid? HAHA
03-27-2009, 11:03 PM
I love my Cummins... I run an old school 12v 5.9... we figure its around 350hp and 800tq (not been on the dyno but since its my work truck I see no need to dyno it)
03-28-2009, 04:47 PM
now we are off topic. sticking that huge deisel engine into a focus is physically impossible. you would not only have to lift the car but you would have to stretch and widen the front end and also add weight to the rear of the car. im not saying it wouldn't be freaking awesome because i would love to see that. but it just cant be done. smaller deisel motor yes but that 4bt just aint gonna happen
04-02-2009, 11:42 PM
Being the 4bt dry weight is 700 pounds
With that weight you might as well swap in a 460 or a 426 Hemi with aluminum heads. Either of those would be slightly lighter.
