Hi guys, OK so according to the Sylvania bulb replacement guide my 2009 has these specs:

2009 FORD Focus

High & low beam headlamp
H13 (9008)
H13ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: The Whiter and Brighter Halogen
H13XV XtraVision Halogen - The Brighter Light

Daytime running light
3157LL

OK, so I'll be installing my HID kit soon and noticed that the daytime running lights were a different bulb, so cool. This afternoon I put the car in Drive with the parking brake and and the with my lights off, the light emiting was coming from the main H13 bulb. Then I turned my lights on, same bulb.

So what gives?

On most US cars the DRL (daytime running light) is nothing more than low wattage going to the headlight bulb (highbeam in particular I believe?). At least so far as I know there has never been a seperate bulb in the Focus headlights for DRL.

That 3157LL they list in the Sylvania bulb replacement guide appears to be the front turn signal/ running light. My best guess is someone there has the 'parking lights' and 'DRLs' confused.

Hes in canada, so they have DRL. Its possible the DRL is in fact the turn signal. Most cars i see with DRL in the hi beams have seperate hi/low.

What kind of bulb doesnt matter. In order to get HIDs you need to retrofit projectors. You will need either a D1S, D2S, D3s or D4S bulb depending on what projector you use.

Good point, I don't think I even read the final line the OP, heh.

The '08-'09 Focus headlights are most certainly NOT made to handle HID bulbs. The stock headlights are Reflectors and made for Halogen bulbs. All HID headlights are Projectors. I would advise against putting the HID's in the stock headlights for your own safety and that of everyone else on the road. Not to mention the legal issues.

Not sure how much research you've done so far, but just remember that installing an HID kit in the stock Focus headlights causes you to loose your highbeams as well. I recommend you read these two articles here:

Both are very informative.
