It's come time for me to finally change the timing belts on my SVT. So of course I have some questions for those that have done it:
1. Manual, Does anyone have a good right up, I've searched and haven't really found much.
2. Tools, what and where is the best place to buy all the specialty tool, Cam locking and crank.
3. Can I eliminate the VVT and use adjustable cam gears? If so what are the pros and cons?
4. If I use cam gears what's a good starting point for the exhaust and intake timing?
As always thank you guys for the support and help.
BTW the car is turbo'd if that makes a difference to the cam timing.
Thank you,
-John

I think C-F-M.com has the cam locking tool. You can eliminate the VCT. Focus-Power makes a kit, you'd also need a tune to eliminate the VCT. Benefits would be better high end power and tuneability for forced induction, cons would be less low end torque and higher emissions

The Cam locking tool is just for changing the timing belt right?

I was just getting ready to say no, no, no....until I read below that you have a turbocharger.
You should get a nice gain. John (03orangeSVT) or something like that, has it or had it on his.
I eliminated mine but have a substantial loss of power, however, it could be attributed to the high compression (~11.0-2:1). Added to the overall loss of power, it drops off after 6000 rpms. I'd be embarrassed to even show the the dyno graph. One of these days, I may lower the compression back to stock levels and re-tune and see what happens.

Thanks for all the help so far. I have another dumb question.
If the SVT cams don't have a pin or key, what keeps it from walking off timing over time?
Also, Should the intake gear rotate back and fourth once the belt is removed? On mine it seems that it's spring loaded????
Thanks again...

at what mileage are you supposed to change the timing belt? 75k?
