if your talking about the 2.3l, thats the PZEV, the zx3 is the 2.0l zetec

You should be able to buy the PZEV motor in TX next year. However there arent as much aftermarket parts for them as the Zetec motor.

But have you seen the amount of products availible in the 6-8 months the engine has been availible? Its amazing.

You'll be able to get the 2.3l engine in a 2004 model year car. Job 1 should be soon, and they should be getting to lots in a couple of months.

Trust me, test drive a 2.3l when it comes out, and you'll be saying "2 point who?"

2.3L - More HP(144), less mods available but more coming soon... You can get the basic bolt on's .

2.0L Less HP(130), more mods available and pretty easy to mod to get more HP.

The 2.3L is either a standard or an option. Either way, you pay for it as an option or get a package that includes the 2.3L

Another thing to think about is that the Focus RS (http://www.ford.co.uk/ie/focus/foc_overview/foc_rs/#) in England is only a 2.0L but it's a Duratec like the 2.3L PZEV....

The 2.3L PZEV is suppose to be available to all states for the 2004 models.
My local Ford dealer is expecting them in late Nov or early Dec.2003.
Check out the Ford Focus website (http://www.fordvehicles.com/Cars/focus/features/specperformance/) and look at the specs and the PZEV is either standard or an option for all Foci except the SVT of course...[b] Ford Focus website..."The PZEV engine is required & standard in Green states of CA, MA, NY, VT & ME. It's also optional on all series in Cross-Border States for Green state registration"

Actually, thats a misnomer. Its actually a Zetec block named Duratec for marketing purposes.

whats the difference in a Duratec engine? What does duratec mean? What are the major differences between it and the Zetec?

Duratec is derived from Durable Technology. Its a new engine the Ford/Mazda developed. One of the biggest differences is the Duratec is an all aluminum engine, which is 40 pounds lighter than the cast iron Zetec. Its also will be availible in 3 sizes: 1.8, 2.0, and 2.3l. Has a completely computer modeled intake manifold, and individual coil packs. I'm not sure how much will change for the non-PZEV versions. Let me see if I can find an article about it.
