: Open letter to Ford...
musclecarjohn 02-20-2009, 01:52 PM As some of you may know,I work for Ford.
Today,we received this handwritten letter via the fax from our local Ford rep from a retired USAF woman who took the time to express her views...here's what she said:
Mr. Alan Mulally,
THANK YOU!!!!
For NOT asking for taxpayers money to bail out your company.
I know times are hard, but you have a good product and you can make it through this!
I had a 1993 Ford Ranger and put 269,000 miles on it.Just please stay responsible and accountable.
The Americans appreciate that and they will choose Ford over the others that take the taxpayers money for their mistakes.
Here is $10 to help you guys get back on track.
Sally ......
Retired USAF and thankful American
And with that, she did indeed enclose a crisp $10 dollar bill.
This letter has been sent out to all Ford dealer principals and I'm certain will cross the desk of Mr. Mulally if it hasn't already done so.
Wow,I was touched she cared enough to make this kind gesture.
Kinda restores your faith in humanity, doesn't it?[wiggle]
What do you guys think...?
kylesvt720 02-20-2009, 01:54 PM I think its great, american car companies get bashed a lot, but they do make a better product then they are given credit for...
sldghmr 02-20-2009, 02:01 PM ^^I'll second that statement.... I've had GMs, Chrysler/Dodges (who are they today? Daiamler-Chrysler?? lol) and of course Fords. I've had a Toyota also and in my opinion it was no better than any of the American vehicles I've owned.
BobBernard 02-20-2009, 03:47 PM I obviously think it's great.
Win.
That is very cool. Good to see that if some random person rights a letter to the company it at least gets read.

Yes...especially when you include money![wiggle]
cbr1100xx 02-20-2009, 08:02 PM I like my Focus a lot but I do think the Japanese and even Korean (Hyundai Sonata...although in a different model class) are better engineered then Ford. But they're also boring. The Focus has some personality which I like.
macgurl 02-20-2009, 10:03 PM This is really quite sweet. I love it.
scalderon 02-21-2009, 12:27 AM we need more believers like her
faster_than_u 02-21-2009, 12:36 AM this is inspiring. i think im going to do it as well. we should all get together and pitch in $10 with a letter inclosed and see what happens maybe it wil even make the news.
p.s whats the address for Mr. Alan Mulally office.
Foxtrot685 02-21-2009, 04:13 AM i would totally do the same thing. i picked the focus over the corolla (it was hard to say no to the 2.4Liter engine but not so hard to say no to its $24,000 non-sunroof equipped price tag), the civic, the sentra, and a handful of other japanese competitors because the fords quality either matched or surpassed the quality of the rivals and offered a better driving expirience than all but the mazda3 and civic. ford is making steps in the right direction everyday by quickly bringing gas sipping euro models to the states, introducing fuel efficient drivetrains (ecoboost and powershift), and improving quality and reliability every year. what has chevy and chrysler done so far, even though they got tons of money?? well chevy has introduced a new fuel efficient vehicle with great quality that would idealy sell well here in the states to europe and while it will be built here, it wont be sold here until a year later. and chrysler is... never mind, no comment [xx(]
what is the address i should send the letter to?[woot]
sleepyboy 02-21-2009, 04:31 AM Everybody can send there letters and money to me and I will be sure to have it on the CEO's desk lol but make sure the 10 dollars is two 2 fives lol *one for me and one for ford* lol
Serious though. Ford not taking tax payer money so very much helped them when the domestic car wars IMO. Especially in the public's eyes.
bluefront 02-21-2009, 05:39 AM Not so fast.....Ford is losing money as much as anyone. Their last quarter report was terrible. They are in the same boat as everyone else, and are sinking just as fast. You'll see their hands out soon enough.....
Quality? Reports like that person's "I got 269K on my Ford"......meaningless. Toyota didn't get where they are/were by selling junk. Ford used to be on top.....where are they now and why?
Weldman0730 02-21-2009, 06:09 AM ^^They are still on top with the F150 hands down in my opinion, and the focus is a great car too.
It is cool that the blue oval hasnt taken any money yet, hopefully with the introduction of the new focus's, the new f150 design and hopefully a upturn in the economy they wont have to take anything.
sleepyboy 02-21-2009, 07:45 AM With them selling everything only bought them just a few months longer than the other domestics. Oh believe me they want a hand out too. But being the bigger company and see the public reactions have decided to wait a little longer. Which is a good thing IMO. Let the others die out and ford remain lol j/k competition is very good. The mustang is only going to get better from here on out with the other pony cars showing up again. Well of course if there will be a ford or a mustang down the road.
WUGcatsvt 02-21-2009, 08:44 AM Awesome, That is how I feel Now. I will not buy any GM or Chrysler Products I am so mad.. Now they are before congress again, begging for more.. and they will again and again until bankrupsy SO GO FORD...

They are improving their products. But if they do ask for a handout, there will be no more Fords in my future. This is Socialism, Period. No if ands or buts. File bankruptcy and restructure just like every other company.
iantm 02-21-2009, 12:24 PM I sent Alan an e-mail thanking him for how great of a car my focus, told him the story of my wreck and how the focus saved my life. I enclosed pictures. He responded back. That said, I have nothing but the utmost confidence in Mr. Mullaly.
flipwilly2 02-21-2009, 03:21 PM You have to have read the newspapers and watched the news on TV. Ford's quality is equal to or better than BOTH Toyota and Honda ('08 and '09)! Alan turned around Boeing and is doing the same for Ford! All Ford has asked for is: IF they need help down the line,
they only want the Gov. to guarantee (back) a line of credit for them-they may never need or use it. GM and Chrysler have both received billions to use so far.
Hamrhead 02-22-2009, 12:47 AM this is inspiring. i think im going to do it as well. we should all get together and pitch in $10 with a letter inclosed and see what happens maybe it wil even make the news.

I'll write them a check for 25 grand right now in trade for a Focus RS.[headbang] Along with a Thank You letter.[thankyou]
C. Mills 02-22-2009, 01:02 AM I really think the new line-up Ford has planned with the eco-boost's and the new F-150 and Mustang are really going to open peoples eyes about the kind of car Ford can build. I am so sick and tired of hearing people say they will never buy an American car because of the poor quality. Maybe at one point in time foreign cars were more reliable/economical but right now Ford is just as good as, if not better than the others. I saw a test of the Fusion Hybrid thats coming in 2010 and they said no other hybrid can touch it in any aspect (including the Camry and its Lexus counterpart). It's good to see that some people still have faith in FoMoCo.
Foxtrot685 02-22-2009, 01:07 AM didnt the F150 win motortrend truck of the year????? if so i think this may be its second time winning it! i dont think mr alan was at ford yet when they were planning the 08-10 focus, i bet we probably would have gotten the euro focus or something based on the c1 platform at least.

People have this pre-concieved notion that domestic's can't hold a candle to the imports...that may have been true way back when...but anyone with half a brain can see we're on equal footing with anyone and the best is yet to come.
Henry Ford 02-23-2009, 02:48 PM Here's the problem no one is loyal to a brand any more. I buy Ford's that it .If it's not own by Ford or as been in the past I don't want it.My whole family is the same way.If a Ford cost more them any other brand I would still buy it.45th year for the Mustang the longest running nameplates in automotive history.F-150 35 strait years best selling truck in the world.
autolite 02-23-2009, 11:57 PM I driven Fords for over 24 yrs Had 2 that needed more then normal repairs.I never walked because my Ford broke. The thing with imports is Toilet spends 100,000,000 a year on advertising so if you where getting a chunk of the millions would you say anything bad about them? 1 of 10 jobs depends on the big three. The big three have over 100 plants in the U.S.A.Imports have a total of 24 plants in the U.S.A. So if Chryler,GM or Ford fail you will be affected by it.

Hey I resent that.. in my house its either drive up in a Ford or park down the street.. the only time I allowed another company is after our accident and they insurance company stuck us with a crappy Nissan Rental which IMO was the biggest Pile of Sheit known to man (Altima and Versa)
I voice my opinion loudly when my sis drives up in her hubbies 300c POS that just had a $9200 engine change after 2 pistons felt like going sideways out of the block Dun ask they wanted me to do the engine change but said im not touching that car if you paid me $100 a minute (god that Pile o crap is a pile oh crap its a rolling electrical fire waiting to happen, and its already started after the heated mirrors shorted cooking the mirrors almost golden color and melting the casing)
I nearly punched my dad out for saying, oh i might buy a Nissan Quest :P hes now aiming at a Mid 2000 Used F150 4x4 extended with cap LOL
as for quality Fords gettin up there and I stand by that.. I walked away and so did the driver from a black ice incident where the focus Squirreled into the path of a loaded tanker which sent my poor fofo airbourn into a ditch sideways.. when the insurance company saw the car they said it doesn't look like we hit a truck aside to the nearly blown out windshield due to the overzelious airbag LOL
so please dun say theres no loyal customers I sold my perfectly working car that i dropped a whole brand new interior in (not a dodge but not a ford (it was a hand me down from a close relative after my 89 Cougar LX was stolen)) to buy Focus Wagon 2 that was severely neglected and didn't run
faster_than_u 02-24-2009, 01:09 AM anything i buy will be a ford. anything i have bought is a ford/mercury. i had a 2008 g6 for a rental one time that was so sh!tty. quality was bad like so bad. gas mileage was around 24 not the 29 or what ever it was suppose to be. the low tire sensor was malfunctioning.
my gf used to be all import and now after many rides in ford's she is now a ford girl
sleepyboy 02-24-2009, 03:23 AM blah blah ford blah blah blah nuff' said lol
My family has owned alot of fords and I think thats why I like them lol. We've had a mustang, aerostar, and 3 ford contours (96', 99', 00') if that does'nt say we liked the contour then I don't know what does. Funny thing to is when we got the contour My dad was suprised that it was alot faster than his V6 mustang. I was too back then (I did'nt know much I couldn't even drive so give me a break lol). Ever since driving the contour I've been a huge ford of europe lover. Heck I wanted a focus before they came out! I had posters on my walls. I knew exactly what I wanted and you know what? I have that car now! Same rims and everything. OK all they had back then were the 15" 5 spoke was the best looking rim option lol. SVTF was still a pipe dream. The only thing I was thinking is I was going to wup up on some hondas with my fofo when I got it. That story has mostly come true. Huh I guess dreams do come true you just have to be carefully for what you ask for lol. I've should have dreamed of an eco boosted focus maybe I would ahve gotten that lol.
whynotthinkwhynot 02-24-2009, 05:49 AM I've owned everything. For a while, I was stuck on GM FWD's from the mid 80's because the parts were so cheap and everything swapped over. I'm a freaking expert on all the variations (6 total in those cars) of the 2.5 Iron Duke. I built a Monte Carlo that Chevy never built (TBI, 700R4, 305) and an 89 Skylark (2.5) that smoked an early 90's Prelude 5 spd with a wing. It's quite hilarious to pull away from a modded Japanese powerhouse (LOL) in 4dr American family car. When I was racing, I built Chryslers. I've rebuilt V8's from all 3 -not all they ever made though, esp Ford who made so many different ones. I liked the ChryCo engines for a reason, but there was reason to admire the 302. There is no reason to admire the Olds 350 Rocket though- plenty of reasons to admire the Buick engines if you have the money to build one. I've digressed.
My first DD Ford was an 87 Ranger long bed standard cab 2.9, 5 spd. I'd had S-10's before. I drove it for 2 years. That engine had it's issues, most solved with an aftermarket oil pickup. I fell in love with it in spite of it's issues- including the leaky cowl. I then had the infamous 5 spd Aerostar, and sold the truck. After driving a Focus rental, I decided to purchase a new one ordered custom (as custom as you can get) for my lifestyle. I now own 2 Aerostars and the Focus. I'm looking for a car for my wife, and a Taurus is high on the list.
I laughed at a friend who recently spent $17k on a new Fit. I then informed her that she could've gotten a new Focus for less than $10k. The last time I checked, new SE Foci with manual transmissions were $8990!! I paid nearly twice that for the wagon.
Phokus 02-24-2009, 06:36 AM you can get a flippin manual focus for $8990?!?! o.O
sleepyboy 02-24-2009, 06:52 AM I'm sure you can find an 06' new for steal somewhere lol
Henry Ford 02-24-2009, 09:34 AM I'm sorry to those out there like autolite, feral, faster_than_u,and sleepy boy I though I was alone on this but we are a dieing bread . my now wife at the time my girlfriend was a big moper fan until she purchased a new neon and ever thing that could go wrong did now she ford all the way ok maybe the old muscle car are still cool to her ,too own made back when it was owned by this country not by who nos?[rant][???:)]But I look around and can believe my eyes older people buying japan junk did they forget WWII and what the japaniness did to are boys and got away with it more or less no war crimes?OK we did drop two big ass bombs on them but that after the fact. and now they own this country with chin too [rant][scratch][???:)][confused]the death marches you know Peril Harbor[:(!]
SVT_ME 02-24-2009, 10:11 AM For some weird reason all I've ever had were Fords... Huh [:)]
92 Taurus wagon, got it with 92K, sold it to my buddy at 284K, it finally died on him at 387K... No major work needed for the entire life of that car, it was amazing.
Currently have the '02 Ranger, 125K and going strong... have only needed brakes and a coil pack to date. Still running on stock clutch.
And of course the SVTf...
Depending on what Ford decides to offer me in terms of performance and function in the next 3-5 years, will keep me from the masdaspeed version of whatever Mazda has to offer [:)] Oh... wait a sec... Mazda is basically Ford... at least for the short term.
