okay everyone i just got my xcal this morning... and im looking at it and i have soem questions about it....


i don't have any cable that will connect it to the computer, so i can do the remote tunning.

how will i know that this xcal is for my engine code?

and i got a removable memory stick.... but writen on the bag, its looks like a engine code, which isn't mine.

The only cable you need is a usb cable.

Where did you get the unit from? used? Is it a preloaded or custom tuned device? The part number on the bottome will tell you this. If you bought it used and it is a 3000 unit most likely the tunes on it, if any will not work for your vehicle.

What does the memory stick look like? It sounds like one of our advantage dongles.

o yeah i got it from tom, hopes its new.... don't think there is a tune on it yet because he sent me a custum tune file to upload.

okay i up the fw to 1.2.110, is this the most recent , the 1 i need?

No offense but you need to do some reading so that you know exactly what you bought...

You bought the pro racer package; if you lost the dongle you will need to find it as you will not be able to open your advantage software without it. A replacement will not be cheap.

Try loading the file to the device again. If it still does not work there are other items we will need to do...and one of which is to make sure Tom updates his software.

You should not of been sent the dongle (part your calling the memory stick) or the disc , Please contact me mondy so I can get those back

All you need to do is load your tun into your xcal3 and then into your car and your ready to go

If you reload the tune file to the device and you still get the can't open file error, we will need to be sure that tom has updated his advantage software.

We discovered a problem with one of our files, corrected it then put it on our update server. The problem caused tune file size issues which would give the error you are seeing.

I will have to check the exact date that we released the file.

The other thing that can cause this is if the description entered into the ll3 file is too long. We have also fixed that by releasing the 2.1.0 updater. This caps the length of what can be entered.

i got the tune installed in the car, everything was working last night, so im hopping that its good to go now.


as for tom, if i remember correctly.. you where the 1 that told people to get a list of what change was made to the tune file just in case we loose contact of the creator of the tunner or if the tunner leaves the scenes.... this is just saving my ass from down the road problems....

i think that he meant a copy of the tune that is in use. i.e. - in your e-mail (i think)

its "quicker" and less hassle on his behalf to just send out the scal and let up load it.

i downloaded the firmware, x3updater, and the drivers. i didnt use the fw b/c i allready had the same version.

i had to get a powered usb hub just so the x3 could turn on. that was my prob. not enough juice getting to the xcal

all in all i like the tune. i tried to setup the rev. limiter for a launch, so i put the rev. lim. neu. @ 3500. once i loaded that tune, i reved it up with the clutch in and it worked. except when i am driving and i shift past 3500 the gas gets turned off and it jerks the car pretty bad.

p.s. - does anyone have a tune where the global spark or any of the spark adj. are not on 0 ?

i have the livelink datalogging software on my other comp. but i tried to install at my mom's house and it kept sending an error message. i saved a datalog run (or whatever you call it) and was wanting to try to load it onto the comp. but i wont get back to my comp. (the on w/ livelink) till tomorrow.

toeycrack, did you do any datalogging yet? if so, how did you load it into the livelink software? i was thinking that it might be the "transfer file" button but IDK.

The spark numbers are not zero...meaning you are not running 0 degrees of timing. The 0 is the base of your tune so whatever your tuner set the file to spark wise. You can then raise or lower over that number.

Okay i got my xcal 3 yesterday and i downloaded the tune from tom onto the tuner. It said my check engine light will go out and its still on and how do i know for sure his tune was loaded. I am very new to this. so i have pre loaded what was on it then installed toms tune or how does it work. Help

I had a helluva time getting my tune to load on my Xcal3 but it was my fault for trying to load it with my computer front usb ports . I plugged the Xcal3 into 1 of my back usp ports and then it asked something about uploading file .
A screen comes up asking about browsing for the file . I put mine on the desktop from the E mail .
I downloaded the newest firmware before I done anything about uploading it .
Then it restarts its self .
You then search where you downloaded your .dll file then upload it on the Xcal3 and it gives an option about naming the file . I named mine Tom's tune .
Then when I plugged it into the port on the car turned the ignition on it gives you the list of options that you can go through .
Go to install custom tune and your tune that you uploaded should be there if not it didn't load .
If it is there , you choose install tune and the Xcal3 will download your stock tune first then proceed to install the custom tune after that .
The screen will have something that looks like a meter on it while your doing this to show your progress . Then it should say something about upload complete and then you have the tune installed.

If the check engine light was on, there was a code.

No you do not need to flash a preloaded file before a custom file (tom's tune.)

okay so do i try to reload the tune and see what happens or what to do next. On the obx header i have 1 slot which i have a black o2 sensor in. I am going to change it to white to see if that will work

make sure to reset the computer after installing the tune. reset by disconecting the battery for 20 min or so

the prp that toeycrack got/lost dongle for/found dongle in his couch/etc was supposd to be headed my way... still don't have it (bought in mid-december)

just an FYI for anybody thinking about ordering the PRP from tom... do it, and do it early, well before you actually need it...

Not allways does it take as long as yours to get here , Part of this was my fault and part USPS and partd SCT

I ordered yours from SCT , didnt come in with in a week so called back and there was some confusion about the order so ordered it again , got shipped then because of me changing addresses they didnt leave the package and held it so I had to rake fedx/ups out because they were to now drop pacakages at back to dyno (closed machine shop and moved it to new building) as per shipping instructions in the computer , another 2 weeks gone by , got your order and went out of town for a week , got back and shipped you packages a few days later , the PRP is small with obly a dongle , paperwork and CD so saw last xcal in box and left it and shipped out box with your PRP in it , then when you asked about it I knew what I had done and shipped it off to someone with the last xcal and had to weight till they all got there to figure out who got it , then had to get him your address

It was a screwed up mess and I take full hit about it all and I am sorry for the wait and confusion , I am normaly slow anyway and with moving and getting ready to leave it has been even worse , again I am sorry for the delays

On the same car, as many times as you want. The unlocks do not decrement until you flash one vehicle, put it back to stock then flash a completely different vehicle. You can only do that 5 times.

There are a few reasons but one big one is if we didn't do this, we would not sell very many units.

Most tuning companies abide by this and the ones that do not sell "credits" to allow you to flash additional vehicles which is basically the same thing.
