: Major fail of the day...
Peregrine 01-16-2009, 09:44 AM Let's say you shelled out a good chunk of money on that car you've been waiting to take delivery on, and the day it gets to the dealer, this happens[bash] [bash] [bash]
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/15/how-i-not-i-to-deliver-an-aston-martin/
I'd would just hang my head in shame.
misfire 01-16-2009, 09:48 AM uh oh, better get maaco
Yocrew 01-16-2009, 09:49 AM I'm sure someone lost a job.
FocusedSlayer 01-16-2009, 09:54 AM I wouldn't want to be around close by when the owner arrives but maybe hiding in some bushes somewhere , just to be nosey and see the reaction .
MichaelJD1980 01-16-2009, 10:11 AM That'll buff right out. No problem. [;)]
mlbbaseball 01-16-2009, 10:15 AM Ya, thats definitely a major fail, but i have to ask my self, those ramps are really really slow moving, and you have to operate them from the back of the truck, so how the heck does someone do that?? were they facing it the wrong way, and why the heck would you raise the gate that high in the first place??
Feral 01-16-2009, 10:18 AM some of those trailers have the capabilities of hauling 2 cars one on top of eachother the upper is suspended with wheel channels or an actual seperating floor
from the looks the ramp didn't fail the bolts holding them ON did LOL
shame for the car but you can tack that up to Shotty vehicle safety and mechanical operations inspections on the trailers lift

That's a double-decker car carrier. Looks like the AM was on the top deck. If you look at the pic, part of the lift-gate broke off, sending the rear wheels south for the winter.
besthaticouldo 01-16-2009, 10:42 AM man what a shame. such a beautiful car!
Wagamos 01-16-2009, 10:51 AM I think i cried a little on the inside.
stoopidsteve87 01-16-2009, 10:59 AM i'd still rock that aston if the owner didn't want it anymore lol
Captain Moonpie 01-16-2009, 02:27 PM Dont worry about it. It adds character. WHat, you guys have never seen someone modify an Aston Marin like a rat rod?
The owner probably went to jail shortly after for killing the delivery guy.

ouch makes me sad, but appears the back part did in fact snap off as u see it laying under the car tsk tsk someones fired for not testing the equimpment
Mr.Bergner 01-16-2009, 03:11 PM Could you imagine if you were in the car and that happened? What would go through your mind?
I'd just bolt......get outta there and move to mexico
And those wheels kinda remind me of my EAP's.....hehe.
If it were a Vanquish I'd barf
DrkKnight614 01-16-2009, 03:31 PM I cried when I saw this, besides the fact that I'm a huge AM fan, the v8 vantage is a sick car, especially the one here in white. This happened before not to long ago, and I think it was on autoblog as well, but it was a Subaru WRX STi instead.
arrestmespi 01-16-2009, 03:40 PM bolts fail, I've see 1 7/8 inch bolts fail quite often
TNT13 01-16-2009, 03:54 PM If it was a delivery, it was apparently loaded in the carrier without any problems. Driver must have backed it up a bit too far on the ramp and the bolts holding that section needed to be replaced.
Poor car.
levin.matthew 01-16-2009, 04:01 PM better call maccoo!

Considering you only have two kidneys...and you have to keep one of them, probably not. lol
S0C0nFused 01-16-2009, 07:56 PM My 1st thought was, is the carrier insured. My second thought was, is the carrier insured to transport cars that cost that much. And my last thought was...A powered lift gate (the piece on the ground) is never supposed to have a load on it while it's in the air. But there is a happy note: All the other owners of the Vanquish just saw there resale ding up a bit!

The lift gate on that car hauler was clearly designed to deal with having a load on it while in the air. It looks like a similar set up to all the NASCAR haulers where they carry a car on top of each other. It wasn't a bolt that failed, at least in the sense everyone's thinking of. That part sitting on the ground was on rollers to extend out from the main lift gait. Basically it's the same set up as the drawers in your kitchen (you can see the tracks on the main lift gate, and the rollers on the part sitting on the ground). My guess is they took the extended part off for maintenance, then forget to put the stops back in when they reinstalled it. As they backed the Aston Martin out, it probably just kept extending the lift gate 'til there was nothing left.
Waffles ZX3 Kona Sport 01-16-2009, 11:25 PM Oh man I'd be so pissed.
SVT_BMXer 01-17-2009, 12:09 AM Atleast it wasn't a DBS.

Oh! Otay! We have a lot of very heavy things delivered to our work location (heavier than a car by a lot), On the sides of these lift gates is always a little sign that says not to put a load on the ramp plate. But after reading what you said I can see that as well. The rails don't look deformed. So Ya! They prob did not have the stops in and it just kept going.
Ft_Knox_Focus 01-17-2009, 09:55 AM ouch, that could make a grown man cry lol!
