I had the same thing happen to me the first week I had my car. Just try disconnecting the battery then hook it back up. It should go off.

Not yet, I'm at work. I am just impatient and want to try a variety of things if the 1st doesn't work.

the light will go off only if there are no problems with the fuel system for 3 consecutive cold to warm starts.... so if you tightened it down before you went to work, then the light should be off within the next 2 days at most. If not then there may be a sensor problem. Disconnecting the battery will turn off the light but it will also erase the ECM's learned fuel strategy. I'd give it a few days and it will go off by itself.

Good answer Hockeyman! I was about to jump in with similar info but I see you beat me to it. One minor addition: the system works by sensing pressure/vacuum in the tank. Under normal circumstances there should be a slight vacuum. If there is an actual problem, it could be the sensor as you mention, or an air leak might have developed somewhere else in the system.

Thanks for all the input. I will see what happens.

I had this problem, my air intake management valve was fouled, had it replaced. Light was gone, and I got like 5mpg better gas mileage.

I had done that same thing before disconnecting the battery. It still stayed on. I haven't had any problems since and the gas mileage is great.

I had the same problem with the gas cap light. Turns out the gasket on the cap was bad, and the system was sucking in air. They replaced the cap (warranty) and the light went out.

Just an update, the light went out by its self this morning on the way to work.
