Whats everybodys opinion of having a 5" monster tach in your car. Im thinking of installing one with a shift light. I like it but some people think its kinda tacky.

umm yeah unless you are going 200mph or go to the gragstrip everyday you don't need one

If you race its better than stock tac, and it can look nice if installed right. Only probably is I think the lowest rpm range it has goes to 9000 and we don't rev even close to that

Why do you want it...what makes you want to have it?

well id say you might like it, if you do alot of mods that allow you rev passed 7k to make power id say its not too bad

i'd suggest a smaller tach with a bright shift light, it'll work just as good and will look 10x better, plus be more low-key. It's bad enough to see a huge tach in a mustang or something, but in a focus or honda or whatever they just look really out of place... but if you really want to know where your engine's at an aftermarket tach would be a good thing since the stock ford tach is always half a second behind.

Tacky as hell

Well everyone has different taste, but the reason you customize your ride is because you dont want it to look like everyone else's ride. So if you like it then do it. I have the 5" Ford Racing tach with the shift light in my SVTF. I liked it because it matches my gauges (being white) and the shift light is small like the size of an ink pen. I go to the drag strip every once and a while and I autocross quite a few times in the summer. But I probably race more on the street than anywhere else and its nice to be able to keep your eyes on the road instead of watching your gauges. But I guess you could always just bounce it off the rev limiter (and slow yourself down) like the ricers do!!!!!!! The back of it is black and so is my dash, you can barely see it from outside the car. I have it mounted between the pillar and the factory gauges. I will be adding a supercharger and nitrous as soon as spring makes its way back around. Thats my .02!

umm yah...I saw one on another focus...looked kinda shitty where he had put it...I guess it owuld look good if u had it in the right spot! also only get it if u race a lot...otherwise its pointless to have one that big...just my suggestion!

It's not all that tacky if ya do your interior right and if ya opt'd for a carbon fiber face. You should really just keep it clean with the tri-gauge tho'. Or, check out the PIVOT tacho lamp, I think it's a little under 5', like 4.5" and it really makes a difference believe it or not...It's as clean as a race that I raced [:X] *wink, wink*

yeh id say a smaller one wouldnt be bad, but then again im looking at it for function, not looks, if your just into looks i doubt you have enough mods to need to use it
