and was pretty much sold on using the MAFia and a smaller tube. But, as we all know, a larger tube with no MAFia is less expensive (the tradeoff being it is less responsive at throttle tip-in, and you cannot change the volt range if you're only seeing 3 or 4 volts) .

So after searching and getting nowhere, and recalling many times where this question goes somewhat unanswered in many threads i've browsed in the past, I want to find out from the experienced tuners and builders what kinds of power levels can be achieved with what size tubes and with or without the MAFia.

So pretty please, with cherries on top this time, How much power can you make on a

A) 2.5" tube
B) 3" tube
C) 2.5" tube w/ MAFia
D) 3" tube w/ MAFia

?

Some people have a budget to follow. I'd rather spend that $200 on tuning. I would rather just do a 3" alone, or use the MAFia and my regular 2.5" tubing

So, what you're saying is, even for "conservative" power levels like 220whp, 3" alone is not enough?

03OrangeSVT did the intial tune which was REALLY close. Tom helped clean it up a bit, and I finished it off after learning what to do from the other 2.
Maybe Tom can tell me if Im wrong but heres my findings.
The computer can read 1023 maf ad counts. MAF ad counts and MAF voltage tell the computer how much fuel to use. My MAF ad Counts have never went above 900. I assume this means I could increase another 123 Counts before limiting the power I could make. There are also additional settings which would give me a greater range. Im not sure what the range ends at, but if my thinking is correct you could make a lot more power with a 2.5" tube before going beyond the MAF's range.
Keep in mind I am NO expert.

At this point with a 3" tube and 15psi I am pegging my MAF at 5700 rpms. I have no dynos but I would assume about 250-260whp range. Too much air to be taken into account. I picked up a MAFia off of amazon for a hundred bucks so my future tune will include usage of that. I would think 3" tube + MAFia would be ideal.

Pete, there's a local shop here that sells Mafias for less than $150 brand new. It might seem steep, but it washes out the shipping charges.

What is your MAFia setting #? Knowing this will help us see if you are maxing out the MAFia in the 2.5" tube at that power level.

OK thank you. I think for myself then (220 goal, 230 max) I will go with the 2.5" and MAFia, since 3" is not adjustable and apparantly easy to max out, and the 2.5" tube will save some energy from the air not having to go 2.5->3->2.5.

I won't have to deal with that. My MAF tube starts at 2.5 up to the MAF sensor and stays a full three to the TB. Precision Turbo parts FTW.

you could always run the 2.5 with the MAFIA for now, and then upgrade to a 3" when you decide to go for more power. It would save the money now, and be an easy upgrade later.
