So i found my rs manifold that i purchased awhile ago [woot] and i heard that it can fit on the spi engine with small mods...now my question is what are the small mods and what turbo do they use?

You'll prolly gonna have to mod the flange to fit.

If it's from a Escort RS 1.6 turbo, then you wont have to mod the flange at all, it will bolt right up. But the SPI uses "D" shaped exhaust ports, while the old 1.6 has "o" shaped ports. Should'nt cause a problem, but it might have a gasket leak.

It should fit the Foci engine bay well, there's no front engine mount or PCV block hole to get in the way like there is on the Escort SPI. You'll need a custom down pipe, and I think thats it, just the normal turbo stuff.

A small T3 will get close enough to the fans that it WILL melt the the plastics and the wires. A cheap, slim fan from Summit or Jegs will remedy that no problem.

Are these rare to find?

In the UK, no. In the US, Yes.

so basically from what u guys all saying is that it will fit but it risks leakage and it takes t3 turbos but i risk melting my cooling fans and wires (but can be fix by buying a slimer fan) sounds good now heres another question which turbo well be the best since jeffescort keeps shootin down my ideas :P XD? think budget thorugh cuz im not rich :P

thanks

Get a front mount fan, and stay away from the ching chong meow ebay turbo's, I know there super shiney and cheap, but get a real Garrett T3.

Yes a china ebay BOV should be fine, I've been running one for around 30,000 miles.

Just save your self some trouble and get a turbo with a internal wastegate.

and where can i get a front mount fan?
A store or person that sell's them.

that flange kinda looks like a t2 (t25/t28) its smaller then t3 and a t25 would probably be perfect on an spi.

I though internal wastegates were more prohibitive and actually more difficult to perform maintenence on?

There's really no maintenence to be done on a internal gate, the only thing that can go bad is the diaphram in the actuator, but that can be replaced.

now, other quikies, do we have to change....
fuel management??? i have noticed if i unplug my fuel pressure regulator, there is alot of fuel going to the engine, will that cover it??
maf???? can our stock mafs take positive pressure??? i heard somewhere they can take up to 1 bar of pressure is this true??
max psi recommened for our engines???

terrible idea. You need more fuel under boost, not while idleing or under vac.

The MAF wont be seeing "pressure", it will be seeing air flow. You'll put the maf on the inlet side of the turbo. Yes you'll need a different MAF, the stocker will max out quick.

what bout fuel? i noticed that you used a fuel regulator...how much psi would be needed for a 5-6 psi turbo set up?

If you can find a T25 off of a Nissan SR20DET (Red Top) it would provide you some boost, and not too much boost that it would harm your engine

ah weak so do i have to worry bout the fuel or no?

tin_maddog

You do have to worry about fuel. Get bigger injectors and tell your tuner all about it.

Pick up your car.

Drive.

Enjoy.

How much boost do you want to push?

bboy1605

You can get 39# flow matched injectors for about $150.00 and you'll have room to grow...
