: Passed a Broke-down Yellow Focus.....
bluefront 10-19-2008, 07:26 AM Yesterday in Festus, Missouri. There were several people gathered around the car already, so I didn't stop. I think it was a late model ZX3, with custom bumpers, and a very large tail-pipe.
The engine was running, and heavy smoke that smelled like burned oil was pouring from the pipe.....obviously the car needed a tow. Question....what do you think happened? I'd guess a seal in a turbo went bad.....Hope it wasn't your car. [wave]
Glad my engine is mostly stock.....[:p]
TnFocus 10-19-2008, 08:21 AM Several things could have happened, do you know or sure it has a turbo?
bluefront 10-19-2008, 08:50 AM ^^^^Nope......but it had a really big tail-pipe, something a turbo car might have. And the heavy smoke from an engine that's running....a turbo seal would do that, but not a few broken piston rings or a valve seal.
fast1gt 10-19-2008, 09:19 AM You sure it wasn't one of those MO. Bug Foggers!
SVT_BMXer 10-19-2008, 08:11 PM I've seen more stock cars broken down than modified cars.
knoxrocks222 10-19-2008, 09:08 PM i bet it was the canooter valve just went bad if u see him tell him i got one for sale but he may have to take out several loans cause its almost as valuable as kryptonite
Phacade 10-19-2008, 09:48 PM For that matter, could have just been a head gasket, although its hard to tell unless you stop...
gonzorelic 10-19-2008, 09:54 PM he may have sea-foamed it... lol
sleepyboy 10-19-2008, 09:59 PM see I tell people make sure and check your blinker fluid at every fill up or you could be stranded on the side of the road. lol
David Anderson 10-19-2008, 10:03 PM might have been my old car ;)
gonzorelic 10-19-2008, 10:25 PM i bet his muffler bearings seized up and thats what was causing all the smoke...
CJohn364 10-19-2008, 10:42 PM i bet it was the canooter valve just went bad if u see him tell him i got one for sale but he may have to take out several loans cause its almost as valuable as kryptonite
Maybe he blew a Flux Capacitor gasket.[grinking]

What are the odds its a turboed Focus
ShamrockSVT 10-20-2008, 03:40 AM a yellow s2 focus drives by my apt several times a day each evening.
Muhaha2 10-20-2008, 04:49 AM Maybe that was a mod he had? and everyone was crowded around to see. I've seen way more far-fetched mods. haha
TnFocus 10-20-2008, 06:32 AM I figured it out... muffler bearing would do something like that...
bluefront 10-20-2008, 10:07 AM Not trying to be funny, I'm just using the symptoms and other available signs to diagnose a serious problem.......very similar to solving a problem thread here, without much/any input from the owner.
What we know......
Large tail-pipe, which indicates modding usually accompanied by performance mods (like a turbo).
Engine running, with a big smoke screen. (probably didn't break a piston).
Smoke smells like oil.....(probably didn't blow a head gasket, which would smell different)
Broke-down on the highway (probably happened right then. No sane person would go on the highway with an engine smoking that bad)
That's about all we know.....but it's enough to make an educated guess, and gives more info than many problem threads you see here.
Now if the owner visits FF, maybe we'll learn what really happened.

Just because it's big doesn't mean it's due to performance. How often do we see ricers with exhausts so huge...
bluefront 10-20-2008, 04:43 PM ^^^Quite true......but. What is likely to fail that causes those symptoms with an un-modded motor?
sleepyboy 10-22-2008, 07:31 PM ^^^two words "bad driver" thats what could kill a unmodded motor. he goes for 4th gear and ends up jamming it into 2nd that'll do it.

Ive seen fart tubes (fartcans) on everything from nicely setup cars to absolute rust buckets with guaranteed no mods hehehe
and yes Ive seen people drive to the middle of anywhere but there street and seafoam the district that stuff smokes like heck and stinks
and maybe you should drive in Mississauga you get smokers through bank/mc donald's drivethroughs ( funny as hell cuz you watch the person serving throw the food through the window and slam the window shut
on the way home from a trip up north we hit the highway smelled burning oil with no smoke and no ther cars were around so we hit the shoulder lift the hood on the escape and find nothing... we hit the road again and smell it so we speed up.. about 10 miles down the road there was a dodge durango just spewin blue/black smoke and they kept hammerin it tryin to make it go.. I guess the lady in the front seat doesn't realize when half her dash lights up with red lights you stop not try to keep going we paced her on the other lane about 20 yard in front of her and the truck could barely break 75kph on the highway... [hah] to bad if she would of stopped she may of saved her engine but running it like that most likely burned it out hahaha

Excuse me for being dumb, but what is a canooter valve?
sleepyboy 10-23-2008, 12:14 AM ^^^Its what keeps the canoot canooting lol noob lol J/K
tenchu 10-23-2008, 01:01 AM Excuse me for being dumb, but what is a canooter valve?
Releases the pressure so the piston return springs dont wear out.
Captain Moonpie 10-23-2008, 01:54 AM Ah, another of the headlight fluid things. Hadnt heard that one before.
