So I just got an AEM cold air intake and a FocusCentral 60mm throttle body for my SPI. But a buddy told me that since the SPI stock mass air is calibrated for the smaller TB, that unless I replace the mass air sensor, i won't end up getting much if any more air into the engine. Is this true? Do I need to replace/recalibrate my mass air? how much does this cost?

Your buddy has no idea what he is talking about.

A MAFS is not calibrated for throttle body size. It is calibrated for fuel injector size. Your throttle body has absolutely nothing to do with your MAFS.

So here is what I think....
1 - Install everything per instructions.
2 - Turn car on.
3 - Take for a spin.
4 - Come back and reset ECU
5 - Reconnect ECU and enjoy the newfound power.

Okay, I'm not gonna pretend to know what I'm doing; I was only recently turned on to the idea of cars as hobby, rather than simply transportation. How does one reset the ECU, and why do I need to do that?

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 - 15 minutes.

It resets your fuel maps so that now the car can relearn the fuel maps with the intake on it.

Well I knew you had to disconnect the cable, didn't realize it resetted the ECU. Thanks man. I'm actually off to go put it in right now. Wish me luck!
