I'd like some opinions here and I'm curious if anybody runs an aftermarket fuel pump, what kind it is and what kind of power rating is it good for?

Also what kind of power can I expect out of the stock 2001 fuel pump with and without the BAP? Also how hard is it to tune with the BAP?

(PS this is in the FI forum because only FI cars tend to have these problems and also my car has FI and I'm going to aim for about 300whp with all other required mods)

I would think you'd need a bap for that kind of power

Oh I know the stock pump alone won't handle that power goal, but I'm mostly just curious is anybody is running an aftermarket fuel pump or if they're just running stock pump with BAP or whatnot.

You should be able to get to 300 with the stock pump as long as it is the newer style

aren't the pumps in the zx3 different from the ones in the svt? if they are, just snatch one from an svt or order one and put that in there.

I'm running 15psi (probably closer to 250whp) and my fuel pressure is dropping off to 32psi at WOT at the top end of my 3rd gear pull. This is with a full tank of gas and the recall pump installed.

IMO I'd go with the BAP to be on the safe side, but you can datalog and make your own conclusions. Better to do it right the first time then blow it up in the tuning process.

you have an 01.. do you have the new style pump that tom mentioned? or do you still have the 01

i havent changed it out so its probably the early style pump

so wasn't there like a warrenty or TSB about the early fuel pumps where the dealer would put in the new style for free? More info on this would be wonderful kthanks! it bolts straight in right?

There's a recall on the early pumps but it's only honored if the pump fails. The recall is good for 10 years or 100,000 miles

Not 100% true. Ford fixed my 2000 ZX3 pump under warranty and it was still good.

Not exactly, I told them I was having cut out problems with my fuel pump and that to my understanding there is a recall/warranty.

They said yes, I said great it was done in 1/2 a day.

You can change a fuel pump in a couple hours if you know what you're doing (i've done it twice now lol).

The hi-flow pump from Focus CFM is great. Comes with everything you need.

Response to question from earlier--yeah, it's the upgraded replacement pump, and I still see that much pressure drop. And I'm told that with more boost it'll only get worse, which makes sense to me because at 9psi I had no pressure drop and at 15 I do. Either way I'd go with a BAP because there is no other alternative if you are having pressure drop and don't want to retune. If you get a aviator or GT pump you have to get a retune and a return style fuel system obviously is totally different.

you can buy just the sending unit for a 03 04 focus check a junkyard i paid 60 bucks for one and installed it in 45mins real easy job just be sure to run the gas out dont make the same mistake i did

im going with walbro 255 i hope it works fine i didnt finish the car yet so cant tell how it will perform
