So i just came back from taking a nice test drive of a nice 2001 black zx3 focus. It has 154,000km on it and is $3500 (CDN). Everything mechanically seemed good, brand new tires and brakes.

The only problem is on the hood there are some spots of rust coming through and on the hatch of the car there are 2 spots that are getting about 2inches long by about 1inch. She is going to take the car to an auto-body shop to get it looked at... should this be of any concern to me?

I would get rid of that rust. It's only going to get worse. For the price you are getting it at, I think it's a good deal. I don't know what the rest of the car looks like and haven't seen any pictures, but the price seems right.
