So I was driving home the other day and had my window partially down. I stuck my hand out the window to feel the nice temperature outside, but when I brought my hand back in, my wedding band clipped the top of the window and shattered the whole thing.

I've already checked with my insurance and I'll have to cover it out of pocket. Since I'm a known tightwad I've been trying to figure out what's the least expensive way to replace the window. I've been getting quotes online that range anywhere from 180-210 dollars. BUT I found one site (glass2go) that I might be able to get the window itself for about 70 bucks.

The first thing is, I don't know if it's a reputable site. And the second thing is, is it easy to replace it myself or would it just be better to pay 100+ dollars for labor? I think I can enlist the help from my neighbor or father in law for help, but I don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is going to be a pain in the ass to realign the window properly if you don't have the tools and haven't done it before. Have a shop replace the window. Also buying the cheapest glass means it may be thinner or may not meet the appropriate safety standards, I would buy from a quality reputable place.

Just my opinion, I usually focus on quality rather than price when making purchases.

$100? I'll do those things all day long for that price. I've had my driver door mostly apart.....the window doesn't look that hard. There are no adjustments I can see. This window regulator setup is fairly standard these days among most cars. Two bolts hold the window to the regulator.....and only goes in one way. You shouldn't have to remove the regulator or the motor.

You run the regulator about 1/2 way down, remove two bolts holding whats left of the window, clean everything out, and slip the new window in from the top slot. Not too hard.

Nissan had a recall on a few different models.....you replaced all four regulators, which also involved taking the windows loose. They paid the mechanic 1.4 hours to do all four. This Focus looks very similar.

Try and find a window at a junk yard. The window is cake to install. The hardest part is taking off the door panel. The window is held by two clamps within the door.

yeah a junkyard is your BEST bet. Real cheap.
Just run in, find a focus, rip the door panel off and take the glass! YEE HAW thats how its done.

I have taken my car doors apart and removed the glass probably 3 times each side. Ther is no realigning. You put the window in the rubber boots and tighten the bolts. If you have the mechanical prowess to dismantle the door, then you can do this.

no, pay the money and get it done right.

If you are not familiar with removing interior panels then you will never get them back on quite right and they will squeak and rattle over every bump... that dives me bonkers. better to pay a pro to do the job correctly.

Stop being a cheap ass pay the 180 bucks and get it done right, the first time.

My dads a HUGE cheapy, I gotta tell you at the end of the dya he always spends more money then if he'd of just got it right.

Like one time his laptop power connector on the back broke. Gateway said they had to replace the whole power assembly or w/e I wasn't on the phone. It would cost 300 bucks to repair and they would warratny the work. My dad found a local guy willing to do it for 150 bucks. 1250 bucks later and a brand new laptop my dad was reinstalling windows as his old broken laptop laid on the ground next to him. I walked in the room and went "nice laptop, what happened to the old one?" he gave me a nasty look and I said "told ya so"

Kinda funny cause he still hasn't learned his lesson.

I just recently removed a window and its not hard at all.
