: Cougar ---> Focus tranny parts
brandnew161 08-19-2008, 10:45 PM Anyone know if the link cables for a cougar with a v6 duratec will fit a zetec? I'm not sure what tranny the cougar uses but it looks identical to the mtx75. I know the link ends wont fit...just the actual linkage cables. Rather pull them at the scarp yard for a few $ than pay ford. Thanks
cougarpimp916 08-20-2008, 10:50 AM the cougar does have the mtx75, but i'm sure the brilliant people at ford didn't make the parts interchangable. i don't know for sure, but i doubt they'd work
brandnew161 08-20-2008, 08:53 PM damn, well one cable on my focus is shot so i'll take it out and lay em side by side. I'll let u know what i find out
brandnew161 08-28-2008, 09:02 PM UPDATE: The cougar shift linkage cable is a perfect fit, no problems at all
mikebontoft 08-28-2008, 09:28 PM that's good [thumb]
y'know, it's kinda funny that I just saw the reference to a Cougar in here, because earlier today I was thinking about if a Cougar's V6 would fit in my car... lol

Actually it would, theres a guy doing the swap as we speak! [headbang]
Timmeh! 09-01-2008, 02:53 PM ^^ i be him...
and i need to get new cable ends for my new shift cables....
i got Zetec cables... but the end links aren't the same.
i'm using a contour trans tho, not a cougar one.
if you've got pics of what the ends look like that would be sick!
and if you wanna do this swap, be ready to make custom mounts and do some custom wiring and line running in the engine bay.
mikebontoft 09-02-2008, 03:58 PM lol yeah.... wouldn't be able to do it....though we DO have a 2.5L V6 in this contour in our shop. lol
cougarpimp916 09-03-2008, 03:00 PM if u want to do the swap, it'd be worth getting the escape 3.0L instead of the cougar/contour 2.5L. it is a direct bolt in for a cougar, so if u do the cougar/contour swap, then it's a direct bolt in a focus too. always nice to have an extra .5L when there's no extra work involved.

ah so...... is THIS the same engine as the cougar? I found it in the contour in our shop, the one I keep talking about lol...

they have a mag??
cougarpimp916 09-04-2008, 07:40 AM there are 2 engines available in a cougar and 3 in the newer contours. both have a 2.0L zetec with VCT and both have the same 2.5L duratec. the svt countour has the SVT version of the 2.5L which is also a direct bolt in for a cougar. check out www.newcougar.org there's plenty of info in there about the available motors that can be swapped into a cougar/contour.
edit: here's a link to the 3.0L section (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/3-0l-duratec-performance/) on the cougar site. there is more info regarding the contours and mystiques since they are all virtually the same car.
if u happen to have the 2.5L sitting around just taking up space, u can swipe some of the parts off that (all listed in the cougar forums) to install on a 3.0L and save u from buying new parts. there's a full how-to on the swap somewhere on the cougar site i believe, if not check out www.contour.org and i'm sure there's one there. really if u've already got the focus set up for the 2.5L swap, the 3.0L swap shouldn't take more than a weekend if u are mechanically inclined (assuming you are if u already did the swap) and have a cherry picker and such.
Timmeh! 09-04-2008, 08:46 AM the problem with the 3.0L swap is that it requires more modification....
as in modifying of the front subframe because of the block size and for the mounts and stuff.
the 2.5 requires some custom work as well, but its a little more "plug-and-play"
and you mean THIS engine?

actually, the 3.0L doesn't require any more modification than the 2.5L. both blocks are the same size. the extra displacement comes from different cranks and i believe the bore is a little bigger. u can talk to a bunch of people from the cougar boards who have done the 2.5L to 3.0L swap, and they say it's actually not too hard.
cougarpimp916 09-04-2008, 09:15 AM here's a little FAQ i found through a post in the cougar boards about the 2.5L SVT (or other duratec) to 3.0L swap
http://www.geocities.com/svt_mondeo/3L.html
it mentions that the motor mounts line up perfectly on page 2
Timmeh! 09-04-2008, 09:26 AM i understand that.
but the 3L swap done by Focus salvage (SHO engine) required the entire front subframe to be modified.
you can read up on it over at modifiedfocus.com
and i just want my swap to be done, im sick of not having a running car.
The 3.0L from the SHO isn't the same as the 3.0L Dtech? just a thought seeing as the SHO motor was in the taurus from like the 93 body style tarues and the dtech for the conti's i don't think was made until later.
(i am stupid so i could be wrong)
cougarpimp916 09-04-2008, 09:36 AM no they are different. the SHO 3.0L and the escape or newer (1998+ i think) taurus 3.0L are different engines. if u went w/ the escape or newer taurus 3.0L then it's a bolt in.
Timmeh! 09-04-2008, 10:07 AM ahh....
so thats how i could do a 3L swap in the future....
hmmm.......

hmmm.......
partial bump lol........ I just started back on this Idea again. So if I'm getting this right, the Escape's 3.0L would fit into the compartment with some modification, or, yeah..... I just gotta know this now, do you have to move motor mounts and all that?
and of course, what else would ya have to do to make it functional?
