Seeking advice on replacing the hatchback lift struts / shocks (the rear hatch) on a 2005 ZX3. I went to put laundry in the back, the hatchback was heavy, noticed the right side lift strut was oily and the cap cracked. I'm looking for a good replacement lift and I'm wondering what type to get.
Any and all advice, past experience is good... thanks.

There was a post about this a couple of weeks ago.
You don't need a replacement "kit" - you just need to buy new struts. Replace them both, as with one bad one, the other is bound to go soon. Also, one good one and one bad one will put undue stress on the hatch and the good strut.
The struts are available from your friendly local Ford dealer parts department, but aftermarket units are also available at most auto parts stores.
Have a buddy or a good piece of lumber available to help you when you replace them.

Don't go to Ford Stealership, they will rape you on a basic cheap part, you can go to any autozone or NAPA and pick up a set of 2 for under 50 bucks. You would prolly pay 80 at a ford dealer. lol, shouldn't take you more than 1/2 hour!!

After trying to locate the proper strut at various on-line sources, I found the best place was the parts department of the local Ford dealer. The had the strut and it was less expensive. I would advise that one supply the VIN number and have them read back to you what is ordered and for what car. Once I had them (I replaced both as was recommended), the installation took only minutes. I kept the one good one as an emergency spare.
Hope this helps....
