So my driver's front wheel bearing is bad and the place i went to go get it fixed wanted $235.75!!! that seems like a lot for a wheel bearing...so I'm going to try to fix it myself...is this a bad idea and is that price to high?

what mileage did your bearings go?

If it's the rear one all you have to do is replace the rear drum. They run about 50 a piece so for someone else to do it that's about right, for labor & all. but it not hard at all to replace. I did one of my rear drums about 3 weeks ago. All you need is a new drum, 30 mm socket I think it was, & some bearing grease.

That does seem high, I thought they were around the 150 range!! but not sure

no it's the front driver side...I went to NTB and they said it would be $213.00 and that is for the hub, bearing and labor...are the front ones hard to change because if not i will do it myself...67,000 mi

buy a haynes manual for ur car and do it urself. then u know for sure it was done right. i personally dont trust mechanics. most r in it for the money

I tried to do mine at home. I couldn't get the bearings in the last 1/8" or less. This made the rotors scrape the knuckles. I had to shim the rotors out with washers just to move the car. It cost me quite a bit to have the mechanic do it right. Which is what I should have done in the first place. I don't know the exact cost because I had other work done.

Good call. Not only did it cost me more money than it should have. I lost two days on my own trying to do it myself, and another week in the shop. I had to drive a Windstar and an Escort sedan for a week. The only thing good about that is realizing how much balls my car actually has when I got it back.

I would have a shop do it, I do not think the 200+ is that bad considering how crappy that kind of stuff can be. rust, siezed on crazy, you may break tools, your car or yourself on that one. I had a bad experience trying to get my hub off one time...

Smart choice on NTB, the one by my house seems well run and honest.

I replaced my rears myself and for the assembly it was 100 from Ford and about 80 from AutoZone. I went with the OE parts both times.
