: Mercury rising...Euro-infused future
imprtslyr0223 07-22-2008, 04:42 PM According to unnamed sources, the New York Times is suggesting that Ford will begin manufacturing six Euro-spec models right here in America at plants formerly used to produce F-Series trucks, SUVs and vans. We'll have to wait until this Thursday before any official announcements are made by the Blue Oval, but that gives us some time to speculate on which Kinetic-infused products are on their way.

besthaticouldo 07-22-2008, 05:18 PM that may be very good news. surprised it didnt happen earlier actually...
DURATECoftheDesert 07-22-2008, 05:32 PM [clap] I would be murdered with joy if they made a cousin to the Focus, unlike Mazda 3 is The Focus Coorperate twin.

Ehh no I actually hope they don't do that, cause they'd be wasting their money honestly. I'd be murdered if we don't get the MKIII at all as a Ford and it ends up being a merc and we get stuck with the 08+ as the Ford Focus. Idk, I honestly think they should just kill mercury, I don't think itll help with sales either. Saturn is an awesome company now, but people are still not buying...mainly cause they stupid and just looking at the badge, but the euro move still didnt make it sell. Sell off mercury and don't have a billion of the same cars with different badges. ONly thing I'd like to see since we will probably still have the Fusion is....Mercury Mondeo.
shepski 07-22-2008, 10:54 PM Man, I've been saying FOR YEARS (like 15-plus) that Ford should do this. They should be paying ME the $100 million (or whatever) CEO salary. Duh.
(Granted, most of the arguments for killing Mercury are perfectly valid, too...)
alk3civichater 07-23-2008, 04:55 AM and what would they call the focus were they to bring it over as a mercury?
mercury focus doesnt go well.. would it be the new cougar?
typing that gave me a chill.. lol
whitefox 07-23-2008, 06:43 AM I would hope that if Ford were to resurrect the Cougar, they should build it on the Mustang platform - like they did from '67 - '70.
If Ford was to kill the Mercury brand, what would they use for a vehicle testbed. The Mercury platforms were the poor man's luxury car, a step or two above the Ford cars and a step or two below the Lincolns.
b16sir1991 07-23-2008, 06:47 AM I told you guys about this a couple months ago.
whitefox 07-23-2008, 07:02 AM I thought I read something about this before, but could not find the thread. Thanks for chiming in, Mike.

No, it would be called the "Forcury Fogar" [rofl]
Peregrine 07-23-2008, 08:41 AM This is going to be an interesting twist of events for Ford and I'm curious to see the outcome. Of course Ford is going to keep the Mercury badge to "keep the planets aligned" with Saturn. AND....since Mercury is closer to the sun than Saturn, these cars better be pretty damn hot.
nomad327 07-23-2008, 08:43 AM autoextremist.com has an article just out today saying tomorrow 7/24 will be the day Ford announces their plan for a completely new future. They are saying this will go beyond just bringing in a few euro models, and that it will be the direction we have all been waiting for for at least a decade as has been mentioned. This guy has been right on the mark as to the way the industry has been headed for years if you have been following his column, so him being excited to this extent has me really excited.
mlbbaseball 07-23-2008, 10:44 AM ford europe should have came to america along time ago!!! Those cars are HOT
cdsilver02 07-23-2008, 11:10 AM No no no the car's name would be the Mercury Monterey. IDK but this seems like a better idea than what they are making now.
shepski 07-23-2008, 12:41 PM I agree that I the idea of a "Mercury Focus" is a bit weird, if not completely ridiculous, but then again I don't really care WHAT it's called as long as we get it. As far as I'M concerned, Ford killed the U.S. Focus in 2005 anyway.
And I don't think Ford would retire the Mercury brand as long as they're planning to keep Lincoln...
DURATECoftheDesert 07-23-2008, 05:46 PM Ehh no I actually hope they don't do that, cause they'd be wasting their money honestly. Well, I feel that Mercury is doing just fine. If they did make one I would deffinatly buy one, there is no such thing as a waste of money; only Hobo, Prostitutes, and the government is a waste of money.
Than again I would buy it for mild performance and class and nothing more.
Dayna2.3 07-23-2008, 06:55 PM Since subcompacts, compacts, and 4-cylinder vehicles of all flavors are hot right now, and hopefully will continue to be in the future, there is plenty of room to brand some of the six new Euro Fords as Mercurys. They could call them either Comet, Cyclone, Cougar, Capri, Caliente, Bobcat, Monarch, Montclair, Monterey, Meteor, Mondeo, Mystique, or some new name they dream up. This is a great opportunity to get Mercury back on it's feet. Let us see what Ford announces this week!
Dayna2.3 07-24-2008, 01:50 PM A Mercury Focus ! From the Ford news today:
In addition, Ford will bring four previously unannounced small cars to North America, including a Mercury-branded derivative of its popular Focus. It also said it would double its hybrid output in 2009 and double its capacity to make fuel-saving four-cylinder engines by 2011.
Peregrine 07-24-2008, 02:37 PM Ford will probably make it imperative that Mercury revive the Tracer name plate which, I think would be better fitting on a hatchback like our first gen Foci, rather than a little crapbox sedan.

Coming soon to your neighbourhood Mercury dealer as a MY2011.
It is a rendering but is based on the C2 Focus platform.

Actually a new name would be in favor this year, I would think that they would bring back older names; because some people would have supressed memories of an older car that didn't run right or something (That is looking at an american's point of view.)
However it would be pretty professional if they though up a name that is used in relation to the name Focus, and that means I need to get my thesaurus.........Which I can't seem to find at the moment.

Whoa - that is COOL! (Even if it is a bit too C30-ish from the rear...)
DrkKnight614 07-24-2008, 09:17 PM I actually hope a Mercury Focus does not come out. The focus is all Ford and I'd feel like it would make the Focus less special if there were other cars out there that looked just like it with a different name and badge. If they made a mercury version of the focus, the only things that I would want to be the same is the skeleton and the internals, design, look, sheetmetal etc would all have to be different.
alk3civichater 07-24-2008, 09:47 PM They can give the bare focuses to mercury, but make sure the RS/ST (if we even get em) are badged as ford!
