pictures on page 3
ok well after reading sporadics turbo build up i decided to do my own build..now im not going to get it all done in a week like he did but im trying my best,,,so far i have
TD05-H big 16g turbo
TD05-H turbo flange from JGS
Radius flange from JGS
Header parts from JGS
FMIC measureing 28 inches long
Type S Bov with 2.5 inch pipe and adapter
Manual Boost controller
Xcal2 from Turbo Tom
55lb siemens injectors
SS braided oil return line
now what other parts am i going to need besides Intercooler pipes, gauges, pillar and misc. fittings for coolant and oil pressure sending unit.
im still trying to figure out what i have to do with the MAF sensor,,if i remember right sporadic said i need a mafia,,,can turbo tom tune the car so i dont need to buy one of these? thats another 200 or 300 for one,,lol,,toms going to send me a safe tune to get the car to him so i dont have to trailer it there. any ideas and helpful hints? ive been reading alot and read alot on sporadics turbo build...thanks everyone

Congrats on deciding to start this project, i too am starting the same project :P, I only have my flange's, BOV, turbo, flex pipe and 2.5 pipe so far. Hope everything goes great with your build and keep us update with pictures!

well maybe the further along u get and me,,,we can help each other if we find out new info needed that will help each other,,like i just found out from turbo tom that we will need a Mafia for our maf sensors...so now i got to get one of them also,,lol,,i bought my a/f gauge last night and my oil feed line ,,i guess theres not to much left to get,,

Hey Brandon. Maybe one of the SFT members could help with the install. Several of us are pretty handy. I am a mechanic/parts manager in Charlotte for a major trucking company. By the way, there is a place in Charlotte on Statesville rd. called Custom Hydraulics. They can help if you need any fittings for your lines . Mike is the boss there and he is pretty cool. Let me know if I can help.

yeah im a mechanic for JB Hunt Transport,,,if u work on trucks then im sure u have heard of us,,,,what company do u work for? any job openings,,lol
05-31-2008, 10:40 AM
i need to know what kinda maf sensor i need,,,can i just use the mafia or do i need to get it and a maf sensor from a 05+ mustang,,,if so what size? ive seen from stock to 90mm....dont want to buy something and it not work
05-31-2008, 11:45 AM
you should be able to use the stock MAF in a larger pipe with the MAia.
BTW: I believe that Mcnewsautomotive sells the mafia for 149.00 + shipping, that's probably where i'm getting mine. best price I've seen so far.[thumb]
good luck on your build, there's alot of good info. in sporadics thread too.
05-31-2008, 01:23 PM
yeah but i did not see anything about the maf in his other then the mafia deal
Waffles ZX3 Kona Sport

Interesting, can't wait to see the turnout! [sorry I have no helpful information[V]]
05-31-2008, 03:01 PM
Ya be sure to keep us updated and keep track of prices for the total.

I make MAF tubes in 3 inch for the 05 and newer mass aires for 90.00
05-31-2008, 10:27 PM
Yea, ill for sure keep a check in, im always double checking and making sure, a guy from jgs sent me an email... the duratec exhaust flange is on back order for 3 weeks. 90.00 for a MAF tube aint bad... i was considering making my own.
06-01-2008, 12:02 AM
well im going to use like 2.5 inch intercooler pipe so to use a 3 inch i would have to adapt it on or something,,,,would i reuse my stock maf sensor with ure pipe tom? i mislabeled the header on this thing,,,not custom engine build,,lol,,meant turbo build but dont know how to change it now
06-01-2008, 02:51 AM
anyone every heard of this site??? http://duratecturbo.com/content/view/15/30/
06-01-2008, 11:38 AM
If I'm not mistaken I think that sparodic uses hi stock MAF and tube with the MAFia for his.
06-01-2008, 01:07 PM
thats why i took a duratec flange and cutt it off the stock header,,,ground it down,,,measured inside diameter and ordered the pipe pieces,,lol,,,its like 80$ just for that flange so i saved me alittle cash in the pocket,,,Hi stock? what do u mean by that? and ive heard of blow thru maf...any suggestions?
06-01-2008, 01:18 PM
I meant his stock Maf and tube... I called the local junkyards and they didnt have any duratecs... When I get home imma do some research on the MAF tube and draw up my own plan and I'll post it on here
06-01-2008, 02:26 PM
ok cool,,im trying now to figure out how to route my intercooeler pipes,,i dont want to go under the engine because i want people to see the pipes when i open the hood,,lol,,,so im going for a more visual approch.does anyone know if the length of IC pipe makes a difference? i mean if its 5 ft long or 8 foot long does it really matter?
06-01-2008, 07:14 PM
longer tubing means less performance because its further the air has to go which also means higher temps (hence the lower performance) and it will also loose force (less psi)
06-01-2008, 08:28 PM
ok so the shorter the better,,,makes sense i guess,,less distance to travel before jamming into the intake,,lol,,anyone think theres an advantage to adding a racing fan on top of the factory fan? would be able to run it anytime u were racing or out having run to add cooling to the engine...any ideas? or what about a racing slim fan bolted in front of the intercooler blowing on the intercooler?
06-01-2008, 08:36 PM
No length on what your doing isnt a real big deal but bends are keep the bends to as few as you can and try not to do any real tight bends
06-01-2008, 08:38 PM
This is a MAF Tube that I make for blowthrough
06-01-2008, 11:28 PM
i will buy one from u probably in two weeks,,do u happen to have the mafia for my car also tom? if so ill get them all at once,
06-02-2008, 12:32 PM
good luck with all that.
06-03-2008, 06:17 AM
There are actually more people that go with the stock MAF in a larger pipe vs. using the stock MAF and a MAFia like I did.
However from what I've seen that is for a draw-through setup.
I'm not so sure the stock MAF even in a larger pipe would meter enough air for a blow-through. Tom?
06-03-2008, 08:14 AM
lol, brandon wanna have a build race. :p j/k I'm hoping to have mine finished by mid-july...
I've got the stuff i need for the MAF tube, yet to start lol.
06-03-2008, 09:53 AM
i got almost all the parts,,still need maf setup and the mafia...intercooler pipes and thats it
06-10-2008, 10:14 AM
more pics of new stuff
type S bov in carbon fiber
header is cut and tack welded now,,getting finished sometime this week
06-10-2008, 10:17 AM
heres some pictures of my set up as we speak
had to make a brkt to hold the bottom of the FMIC sturdy to the car..also removed the crash foam and cut knotches in the metal so i could reach thru and install the bolts into the intercooler to mount it
06-10-2008, 12:51 PM
I went with the stock sensor in a 3" tube WITH the MAF'ia I feel thats the better way to go.
Also blow through instead of suck through...
any other questions you would like to have answered?? (I didnt read all of the pages)
06-10-2008, 10:49 PM
in this part of the country what do i have to do to make the car emissions legal? can i reuse my stock cat or do i need a high flow cat? should i use stock exhaust pipe or do i need something bigger for only 10 psi of boost?
06-10-2008, 11:45 PM
Don't use the stock exhaust. The stock flex pipe only has a 1.5" ID.
There are pics of it in my build thread.
A 2.5" exhaust will work great.
06-11-2008, 12:01 AM
what about 2 inch exhaust? the exhaust it self is about 2 inches right?so i could weld my down pipe right into the cat and it would be done,, ive heard they make tools that can spread the opening on the cat to make it a 2 1/2 inch opening and outlet so i could reuse the cat...any ideas on this?
06-16-2008, 10:29 AM
ok i got the header all welded up,,,having issues with my new xcal2 now,,cant put the turbo on till i get it working,,,still waiting on my ic pipes,,,once i get them all made up and get the xcal2 fixed up then ill be ready to install it,.,,getting my pan welded this week,,,do they not make a bolt on drain tube for this car? ive seen some universal ones on ebay??? u mount them with a gasket and drill a hole thru the center once its mounted,,,then ure line hooks right to it,,any ideas there?
06-16-2008, 10:37 AM
*waits on parts*.... Idk the gasket would probably get ware on it fast... just my opinion... Soon as i get my oil pan baffle i'm going to drill and have my oil pan welded... hopefully you get that turbo working... dont forget the gauges X-D
06-16-2008, 10:53 AM
yeah gauges also,,,forgot about them,,,,well the part that bolts on is made from alumninem,,,so i could always weld it on,, but i guess its just as simple to weld in a tube,,my brand new xcal2 aint working at all on my car,,dont even power up,,,,it works on my tracer and when i hook it to my computer but not on my car,,going to try it on another duratec focus today and see for sure,,,if so it must be a power wire or ground wire gone bad
06-16-2008, 11:02 AM
I hate you.
looks good keep us updated...hope everything goes smoothly for you!
06-16-2008, 11:07 AM
Yea, nvr seen that out of a xcal... Im going to have to get a base tune for mine soon, and just keep it stored. Hope you get things going.
06-16-2008, 10:47 PM
well the xcal is driving me nuts cant really go further till its fixed and done,,,cant have a turbo with no tune
