04-30-2008, 11:47 PM
going to install the ORP my GF got me next week and was wondering if i could do anything to guarentee I don't get any exhaust leaks. Should I use a gasket sealer, if so what kind? How do I check for these leaks anyway. Thanks and I'll post sound clips when I'm done [race]

you can hear a leak if there is one.....i would get both new gaskets just to be safe.

i wish my girlfriend gave me car parts....
i used gasket sealer on mine b/c the back of the pipe is really hard to get torqued down properly if you dont have a lift =\. mine was very very rusty so get out ur wd40a and good luck.

btw, this can be done with jack stands, you dont need a lift for this project. i even got a sawzaw on the bolts that are at the cat/flex as well as the header/cat connection. all them bolts were rusted up. that was a PITA! all done with no lift. just a few blades
reminder to all, use antiseize on all bolts particular exhaust bolts. i also replaced all the bolts with Grade 8 bolts from Lowes. makes the install sooooo much easier

I had to take mine to a custom muffer shop to get the dang bolts off.. He installed it for 20 bucks YAY!
05-01-2008, 03:38 PM
^^^ thats not bad...i would pay someone 20 bucks for the hastle...maybe when it comes time to smog oll ask someone to do it for 20 bucks LOL.

i had to take mine to a muffler shop as well to get the old bolts off, dont recall what he charged me because i had some other stuff done at the same time. He had to heat them up pretty good though to get them off and i think he had warped my flange on the flex pipe, but i just kept driving it and re-tightening it every couple hundred miles or so and now it has a nice tight seal and no leak whatsoever.

The only way I got the bolts off was PB's Blaster penetrating oil. good stuff, but if I could get it done for twenty, I would have.
New gaskets, and anti-seize the bolts a little before reassembly.

just remember removing the cat and getting caught is a very big fine, here in CT its $5k and if tehy find out a shop installed it for you the shop will get fined $25k. not saying don't do it just letting you know.

Well i had it taken to a shop to do, but i did not get new gaskets and now i think i have a leak. I ordered new gaskets but how would i check after that to make sure all leaks are gone?
05-11-2008, 07:33 PM
why did you think you had a leak to begin with?
05-12-2008, 01:26 AM
No, but everytime i step on it or at idle i hear a leaking sound that was not there before. And was told to get new gaskets but most said not too and now i think that is the weak link
05-13-2008, 04:04 PM
personally, i never reuse old gaskets, they are cheap and it doesnt make sense to me to reuse it... that may be your problem... the only other thing i could think off would be a crack or something. good luck man!
05-13-2008, 04:21 PM
you prob have a leak... are your bolts tight enough?
05-13-2008, 08:07 PM
ive noticed the same sound, and i replaced both forward and aft gaskets and there tq'd. i think its just how it sounds..
05-14-2008, 12:06 AM
Hopefully its just the sound i am getting new gaskets just to make sure and getting an exhaust leak test. Thanks for the input guys!

I do know of somebody that has a ORP and theirs was cracked no big deal just needed to be welded up didn't affect the ORP at all.
05-15-2008, 06:44 AM
i think i too have the ORP "sound" when i had the cat on, it wasnt there and now its back when i installed the BORLA and re-installed the ORP. i still might order gaskets all the way back. although, wrapping the ORP may be first.

Guys for future reference don't use WD40. It's a water displacement and usually used to help slide rubber components on and off.
Use PB blaster instead to loosen old rusted bolts and nuts...

should have came with gaskets, but c-f-m.com sell some
06-15-2008, 04:54 PM
i removed my gaskets and applied Permatex' Copper coating specifically made for exhaust gaskets. you paint them like you would anything else and put them on. i painted ALL my gaskets. now the sound is gone and all i hear is the sex pouring out of the tailpipe instead of premature gases up front.
after inspecting all my flanges, i had a small leak at the head and at the collector
