: What's left?
kingnothing 04-29-2008, 10:46 PM I was thinking about this the other day. It seems to me that there are TONS of parts on an SVTF that are specific to ONLY the SVT version of the Focus. The sticker of my '04 EAP was over $24k but it seems to me that because of the high amount of specific parts, Ford probably lost a fair amount on each one. That being said, what would be left if you took all the SVT and EAP goodies off an EAP SVT?
Headlights
bumpers
grills
fog lights
seats
center console
stereo
gauge cluster
complete suspension
brakes
clutch
door handles
hatch door/spoiler
B-pillar appliqués
door cards
transmission
wheels
exhaust from the block back....
Seems to me you would be left with a block if you took all the engine parts off.
this is just stuff off the top of my head. What else?
SVTF200487 04-29-2008, 11:43 PM Intake is different too.
SVTF200487 04-29-2008, 11:47 PM Or the easy way: A unibody with windows, bare block(No Internals), Fenders, And a couple of engine accessory's.
focusguy87 04-30-2008, 12:05 AM You wouldn't even have the block. Svt block has special oil squirters
SVTF200487 04-30-2008, 12:25 AM Ok, Minus the block and add........oil pan??[scratch] [unsure] AHH I remember LUG NUTS.
HaveBlue83 04-30-2008, 12:27 AM shifter linkage has a metal connection part in it....the Non-SVT does NOT.....
I know this because I broke the plastic on in my old ZTS......[;)]
SkaAddict 04-30-2008, 12:57 AM bare block(No Internals)
The only difference between the SVT and normal Zetec block are the pistons, rods and squirters. Everything else is identical; crank, main caps, bearings, windage tray, oil pickup, pan, etc.
svt2nv04 04-30-2008, 05:16 PM Seems to me you would be left with a block if you took all the engine parts off.
The block is even slightly different, I just noticed a couple others already posted that though.
SkaAddict 04-30-2008, 06:18 PM ^
How so...?
I mean aside from the tapping for the oil squirters, everything else is bolted onto an otherwise normal Zetec block.

The only difference is the tapping for the oil squiters, but that technically does change the block. So even if you remove the squirter the tapping is still there and since it would cost you to have some one tap your block it's an added expense to the SVT block.
SkaAddict 04-30-2008, 06:41 PM The point being is that everyone is saying "well if you take all the SVT parts off you're left with a bare block." That isn't true, the SVT uses the same crank as the normal Zetec, the same main caps, same hardware, bearings, etc. If you were to take a SVT shortblock and put it next to a Zetec shortblock the only different parts are the rods, pistons and oil squirters. Most of the difference is in bolt on parts (like the oil cooler that screws onto the block) or in the head itself, which is radically different from the normal Zetec head.
I'm not making light of the SVT engine, hell I have a salvaged SVT shortblock missing one piston/rod that's going to go in my Focus in preparation for a turbo because the SVT internals are that much better...but SVT block = Zetec block in all the ways that matter. Its not any stronger and 90% of the parts are the same.
phatlt23 04-30-2008, 06:52 PM can i get a pic a your center console?
WitchCitySVT 04-30-2008, 06:53 PM Your right. I guess it would be more accurate to say that you would have no block with the short block internals if your trying to add the expenses of the SVT build. It would be hard to say you would have a short block minus the squirter and the cost to have the block tapped since the cost of tapping the block at the manufacturing process is minute compared to what you would have to pay to have someone do it afterward.
patalrob 04-30-2008, 09:17 PM Steering Wheel. Isn't the CV Shafts different to and Steering?
SkaAddict 04-30-2008, 10:31 PM SVT transmission has a different spline pattern in the differential and possibly different lengths for the halfshafts, so it has its own unique axles.
The SVT steering rack actually has a slightly wider turning radius because of the 17" wheels.
03OrangeSVT 05-01-2008, 01:57 PM The front knuckles, rotors, calipers, front and rear swaybars, complete rear disc, fuel pump, ecu, seats are all different as well.
thelastsvt 05-04-2008, 01:52 AM Sports Compact magazine ran a 7 part "Project Focus SVT" . I remember in part 1, they visited the manufacturing plant in Mexico. It stated that the Focus SVT had 497 parts spicific to the SVT compared to a regular Zetec. I think (but do not know for sure) that the Focus has approx 3500 parts in total.
