Have you gotten the little silver metal clip off? If so you have to turn it just right and work it off. When I did mine I used a small screw driver to work it off. Here is a link that will help you that I wrote up: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155481. Hope this helps you.

i got it off but how do you tell if it is bad? the lil splines on the indide seem a lil wrecked but other than that it looks fine

mine looked just like that, I believe that is a sign that it is starting to go bad. It has a slot in the tip that will sometimes round out. Most peoples issues with this is where the cable clips on, that little pole will break off.

normally the nipple that allows the IMRC cable to connect it breaks off. i have never heard of the splines on the inside of the lever to be stripped.

after you remove the metal clip you sometimes need to give it bit of a tug.

yea i got it all off but doesnt really seem that bad, im having a studder problem at like 5-5500 and i thought it would be stripped out but its not.
