Well Dullishpage's Amazing anal moment. I must have rear dome light, must have rear dome light. Oh no! it is done..Must be very careful doing this, or you'll fudge the liner like i did. Also Try not to the lose the little plastic button snap the hold the liner up, like i did. I also will have to repaint the bezel, as i kinda marked it up messing with it, but hey it works. I was going to glue the bezel in, but for some mircle reason, it just stays in place like it is. I haven't had the time to glue it, so its just sitting in there, and it hasn't come lose yet. Although, I think glueing the bezel will make it more flush with the liner, but all in all, i think it works and functions as i wanted. I don't know if it added any value, but it is hella bright in my car at night now. I am dumb, and didn't take any pictures installing, so I can make a how to using paint bush if need be, and yes I modded a stock from bezel for my needs as you can see...[popcorn]

Nice, but yeah, it does feel out of place. Maybe if it was a different type of light.

Now that is a neat idea. I was thinking of putting some led pods from oznium in the back of my hatch. This is cool too although I'd like it a bit smaller. Overall, nice mod.

Did you wire it so it will turn on at the same time as the front one when you unlock the car

i did the same with mine, i love it too so much easier to see things when getting in and out of the car, took me about an hour to get it done.

the only thing is that i didnt quite get the front tab flush, but idc it gets the job done

Yea, i put it there because in a mazda 3 or 6 that i rented had a rear light in the same spot, so i liked that. I thought putting it in the middle was too close to the front, also because of the angle, the map lights shine perfectly on the back passangers laps. I basically tapped into the front dome light and ran the wires above the liner. Turns on and off just like the front does. Took me about 30 minutes for the wiring, about 10 minutes to sand down the tab, and about 5 minutes to paint match it to font, although might repaint it again since i got finger print all over, took about 30 minutes to scare the crap out of myself and cut a hole in a $1000 head liner for no reason. Also it might be a little crooked or you might see it is not flush all the way, becuase i haven't perminently glued it yet. Just in place for now as is.[dunno] It lights up the car well.

If you want to be official about it, you can get the rear dome light and wiring harness from Europe:

about $13 for the dome light off ebay. About $10 for wires electircal tape and connectors. Coat hanger to pull wire and box knife free. Also unwanted commentary from my father about it, also free. My dad has this thing about taking over everyone projects, I used to try to make models, but before I could finish them , he would complete them for me, lol. So my dad managed to of course help me enough so i lost that plastic button for the headliner.[whip]

Nice, that looks really good. I need one for my car to make it deaf friendly. They need lights to see each other's sign language for communicating.

oh then a essential add-on for you. Strange they would design a car with such a minimal amount of light for the back.

yeah, i would have thought it would be a center light, with 2 readers up front.that is how my last car was.

If I'm not mistaken, you can get the same light and harness domestically. From what I recall its also used in the wagon...

Is there enough room above the headliner to do this over the rear seats in a wagon?

probably, although I would be careful, it is really nerve wracking... also ,where glove,s the fiber crap in the ceiling itches so bad afterward for days.

Here's a question for the OP, how much space is there between the headliner and the roof between the grip handles and rear window? I have some jetta rear reading lights from a while back and they're about 1'' thick, was thinking about putting them there.

...my problem is the bass would shake it loose. I thought it was kind of dumb of Ford to have only the one set of lights at the very front... very good idea! I assume you just tapped off the existing wires so it comes on and fades off just like the original up front?

yea, it works pretty much the same as the front does, no problems so far, worked great at the drive-in move theater in sac the other night.
