so i just got my first oil change for my svt done, the svt manual says 5w30, but i saw the regular focus handbook and it said 5w20..... i talked to my auto shop teacher, he said i shoulda put 5w20 in there. called up the ford dealership they even said i should have put 5w20 even though my svt manual said 5w30.

right now im running on 4.5 quarts of full synthetic quaker state, k&n drop in

what do you guys run on?

I always ran 5w30 synthetic in my svt and never had a problem with it. It won't hurt anything.

5w30 definitely, as it is said in SVTf's manual. It's been discussed here a few times, use the search button to get more info [;)]

^^^It's been discussed here a gajillion times. [;)]

I don't know your shop teacher's reasoning, but you shoulda put 5w30 in.
^^^Especially if you have any warranty left.

Running 5w20 won't hurt if you don't change it out till the next oil change,
but when you do, use the proper weight, as mentioned in the SVT Supplement.

5w30 provides more protection, especially at the higher rpm your SVTF will see.

And...the capacity is 4.5qts with filter change.

chances are the dealer just looked it up as a 2.0 zetec motor. my cousin had the same issue with his SVTF, and the svt dealer said that it SHOULD have 5-30 in it, and that 5-20 could even go as far as to cause damage over time.

Most likely, the further away we get from that last SVTF rolling off the line,
the more common it will be for Dealers to give the wrong advice.

There isn't any more program/training for SVT Certified Dealers either.
I swear, we've (our local Ford Dealer) got the one mechanic in the whole state that's familiar with the SVTF.
Fortunately, he's also a friend of mine. [thumb]

the svt manual says 5w30

As far as I'm concerned, that's all the information any of us need. I'll stick to going "by the book".
