: 2003 SVT Motor Mount ??? so confused ???

Ok so when i bought my 03 SVT it needed a passenger side upper motor mount. Figuring i would just get an aftermarket one as it was cheaper or comparable in price to a stock replacement, i bought one from C-F-M. I'm not complaining about the performance aspect as i noticed firmer shifting and better handling immediately just from one polyurethane mount. It is listed as motor mount for 02-04 SVT and installed with no problems. HOWEVER, despite the benefits the mount allows for too much engine vibration and shakes the steering wheel in the most annoying manner when im stopped at a light, etc. Its so annoying that i tried buying a stock used mount from MACHSLAMMER, a fellow focus fanatic parting out his 03 SVT. Well i go to install the mount on my car and its not an SVT mount. Its a stock zetec mount and he insists that the mount came from a stock 03 SVTF. I see no way why ford, who produced a limited number of SVT Foci in general, would split up their own SVT fleet with which mount they used. Has anyone ever encountered having a stock zetec motor mount on their SVT while I have the normal typical SVT specific mount??

Am i getting BS'd by him or what?

i believe the only mount that is different between the 2 motors is the right side mount.

The passenger side mount is different; the other two are the same. I suppose it's possible to install the non-SVT mount into an SVT, but you would only be able to use one bolt to secure it instead of two (unless MACHSLAMMER drilled another hole in his car).

if u use the C-F-M motor mount the vibration is going to be there, if u go ahead and put all poly-eurothane mounts in, it will even out the vibration to where it isnt as bad, in my case anyway.. plus in about a couple of months u will get used to it, and u will forget what it was like to have the stock mounts, in my case also..

to answer ppl no i didn't sell the cfm mount, but i'd love to sell the cfm one if someone has a stock SVT motor mount for sale. Its not so much that i can't get used to the vibration but that THIS IS NOT MY TWIN TURBO MUSTANG! this is my daily driver and ur daily driver shouldn't shake like all hell at stop lights, its emberassing as if there is something wrong with my car.

I'm gonna ask the guy for a refund since he finally contacted me and still says its from his parts 03 SVT. Hell i think the guy got screwed and someone swapped svt body and interior into a stock zetec focus but thats not my problem.

plus why the F#$K would i pay $50 for a used zetec motor mount anyways? those things could fall off trees in junkyards as compared to finding an SVT with the mount....blah...its just frustrating when ppl screw u over.

ya it seems either you or him have a std zetec... you should have a gray valve cover that says "Powered by SVT" on it

Focussport's website has a good pic of why they wont fit.

the one on the left is the std. zetec and the one on the top, left is the SVT

Is this the mount you bought? I found it in MACHSLAMMER's parting thread:

That definitely didn't come out of an SVT.

You are correct[duh] , The holes are too close together. I was looking at too buch of the big pic to notice the spacing.[?|]

Not too proud to admit im wrong. Here is a pic with all the goodies out of the way.

I hate admitting when I'm wrong, too. [rofl] It's all good! Rep for you. ;)

So, dappie_99, it seems you've been sold a non-SVT Zetec mount.

yup....i mean it got sent home to my dads garage, he only checked to make sure it was still solid and didn't have any play, didn't think to say hey compare it to my non-svt focus parked at home just in case, nobody would think to do that when a person advertises their part as coming from an SVT..... oh well......i have no recourse action against him through paypal since its been too long and that sucks. thats the problem with paypal, just b/c i bought it doesn't mean i bought it as an immediate need and would find a problem with it right away.

That sucks... he won't work it out with you? I mean, he must have a real SVT mount somewhere if he parted out an SVT.

The mechanic says that my rear motor mount is shot. Can I replace just that one with a VF Engineering replacement, or aftermarket piece?

Yeah. It will give you a bit of vibration, but I've heard the rear dogbone mount is a highly suggested upgrade. Don't have one yet, but do have poly passenger side.

Actually, I had a MAC mount for a few years until a bushing came apart, and it DID shake...but the VF I replaced it with was smooth right from the get go. Definetly get the VF dogbone and your shifting will improve a bunch. Totally makes the car better.

Thanks for the input. So I can replace just the rear motor mount with a VF Engineering Piece, and leave the other stock motor mounts as is, with no adverse affects?

yes.

I have the poly inserts on my rear mount. I do notice a vibration at about 1000 rpm, but anything above or below that and it goes away. also, i think the benefit of having the power from the engine actually transfer to the wheels is huge. Earlier i accidentally let out the clutch at idle with it still in first and i chirped my tires. The car litterally tried to take off. if it were just the stock rubber mounts, my car wouldn't have moved, and would have just died.... so, for all its faults, i think its worth it. and if the vibration is bad, just find the idle rate above or below the vibration, and have tom tune that as your new idle... just my 2 cents...

you took it out cause of the shaking? wow, thats all i can say... what were you expecting?

Big difference with the vf mounts less wheel hop too. I have the dog mount but just purchased the other 2 i love these especially in the canyons

How do poly motor mounts get rid of wheel hop? U thought all they did was not allow the motor to twist or turn inside the engine compartment. I thought that you need to strengthen the suspension and get better tires to eliminate wheel hop.... Just asking...
