The kit will ship Monday. I'll do a how-to when I install it. $150 something for the kit and switches... I consider it a good investment. =3

Nice purchase, wonder if you would be able to get some stock focus switches to work with the kit.

He should be able to!!

I'm sure I could get some stock switches and wire them to my purpose, but the switches I ordered will be just fine. I'm gonna install them on the center console!

Since I have a stick, it's much easier for my right hand to have access to the switches than my left. I've always kinda liked the center console arrangement.

It'll present it's own installation headaches, but I'm willing. I think it'll be an awesome setup when I'm done!

I'd love to see a write up on this. I don't think anyone's ever done a how to on it. Good luck and make sure to post a how to when done!

suggestion: buy the factory bezels with switches. DO NOT install the switches that come with them. they are crap. you'll just end up putting wholes in your car and switches that stick/unusable. check ebay for a set. trust me, i've had my kit for almost 3 years now and gone thru 3 sets of switches.

after i get mine setup ill post a DIY thread.

I second that how to. I wanna see how this goes.
Where'd you pick up the kit?

Yes invest in the factory bezels for the factory switches, don't bother with the ones from the kit. I managed to wire all four factory switches (including the rear lock out function, and driver one touch relay) all with the help of my Ford wiring diagram manual. I could've written a how-to myself, but due to my kit being a crappy knock-off (I was only able to use the wiring loom...all 4 motors crapped out on me), it took some time before I actually got all the right parts. Good luck w/ the installation and write up.

I got the kit from this little site called A-1 electric, after doing a little homework on the "best" quality aftermarket window kit. This kit uses your existing crank mechanism, so if a motor goes out or something, your window is still operational until you get it fixed.

I'm not terribly worried yet about the quality of the switches, based on what I paid for them. The kit itself is supposed to be modular and able to be purchased for any number of doors/windows arrangement, so you have to buy the switches seperate. The ones I got came with their own wiring harness, are illuminated, and cost me $40! If those switches feel like anything but quality right out of the box, back they go.

This place sold some serious switches too though. One adonized billet aluminum set was a hunnert bucks. o.o

damn $40? you shoulda seen how much I paid for my knock off kit...it too used the existing crank mechanism, but after the motors failed I swapped the cranks for some real power window regulators from the junkyard (which I ended up paying more for too). SPAL from what I heard is pretty reputable though.

That $40 was only for the switches. The kit itself was something like $120. After this comes power locks, from the same company if I like these.

I got it! Just pulled it out of the box. The switches don't seem to be made of really -tough- plastic, but it's got a solid action and they're weighty. It's really damn cold here right now, so all I can do for now is pull my center console and install the switches. With any luck, they'll fit where I want them to.

The motors/mechanisms are rock solid. They're heavy and tough-looking, and made in Italy. I'm impressed! I'm gonna wait for a warmer day to pull the panels and do the install, but until then, I'll get some pics for you of the kit itself.

It's still too cold to go out and do the install, and I'm gonna have my buddy help me with it in his garage as soon as we both have the time. But I got the switches installed in the console.

I did take pics with a better camera for the how-to, but that's not gonna go up until I've done the doors so I can upload the whole thing at once... but here's some cell-phone pics for ya until then!

Console AFTER:

Included in the HOW-TO will be detailed information about how I matched up the positions for the two sides.

EDIT: Those switches, for the curious, are the cheapest plain plastic Electric Life ones from the A-1 site. They're lighted flushmount switches, and the plastic color and consistency goes well with a stock black center console. They INCLUDED the wiring harness, and rubber sleeves and boots for running the wiring through the door jamb, as well as clip securers for the wires underneath the switches. They need about 2" of mounting depth, and should work fine for my car where I installed them, but I don't know what's under the console of you 00-04 owners, so DOUBLE CHECK! Easy to do with the shift boot removed.

It was a nice day and I had some time, so today I installed the motor and transmission on my passenger side door. The panel is off at the moment and the stuff is all drilled and bolted in.

I have to go to work, so tomorrow if it stays warm then the order of the day will be to run the wires where I need them and reinstall the panel. I'm pretty sure I picked a spot to provide sufficient clearance for everything, but I'll only be able to see once I do it. Didn't take any pics 'cause this is sort of a "test run" as of yet. I think I may have to omit/cut some sound deadening to make room for the motor, but I'm pretty sure it'll clear the door panel where I put it. After I get the passenger side working, I'll bust out the camera to do the driver's side!

HOW-TO coming, people! [cool]

I've never had a problem with my switches and its been about a year and a half.
Thats is the only spot worthy that I found also...if you need pics of things a long the way you may have forgot just let me know, I have mine.

It's ALIVE!!!!

Ran the wires today, (Thanks SquillyB!!) tapped my fuse block in the "Front Power Windows" slot (which I thought was -hilarious-, but it had the right amperage) and juiced the thing up.

Success! I rolled down and up the passenger side window a couple times and decided it was getting too dark to go on. I took lots of pretty pictures too, to contribute to the how-to.

The next day I have off, I should be able to finish it up and put my interior back in. Whoo-hoo! [woot]

i tried wiring my switches and no luck. my switches that came with the power window kit have 5 terminals like this. how do i wire this to the factory switches?

Sorry man, couldn't tell you. If you're using an aftermarket kit, then you can tap your fuse block for power with an add-a-circuit adaptor, and run the ground to the convenient chassis ground Ford has beneath the doorsill/footwell trim on the passengers side. After that, just hook the two wires coming from your door motors into the positive and negative circuits and test... if it goes backwards, switch 'em and it should be fixed.

I don't know anything about the factory switches though!

Hope that helps. Got it straight from my wiring diagram manual (it's for 2004 foci, but I'm sure all models up to 2004 were the same in terms of wiring...). Sorry I can't explain to you how I wired mines since that was a pain in the neck in itself.

Don't be so sure on the wiring pre04. I was reading in another thread talking about power door locks and there was some discussion about wiring changing in the mid 02 era. I know the way to tell an early or late 02 is based on the manual transmission shifter, but I don't remember which is which off hand, just that I know there was a change in 02. As for autos, dunno. But just something to keep in mind.

^thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure if there was any wiring changes, but if you have an '04 the schematics should be accurate.

It's done! I drove around for a week with some combination of my door panels / center console out, and felt so very rice, but it's finally done!

I have all the pics for the how-to on a camera that I'm borrowing from my parents, so it'll take as long as it will to get those from them, and then up goes the post.
