: This might be a touchy subject but, here goes...

I am interested in setting up a place to hide a compact pistol (most likely a Sig P220 or something of similar dimensions) and two mags. I will be attaining my CCW permit in the next few weeks and am trying to see if any other ZX3 owners have set something up like this. Sorry if this is a touchy subject to some, I don't mean it to be. Yes, I know how to use a weapon and all the other questions that might come up and will be irrelevant to my questions, which is: Where did you set it up (meaning within the vehicle) and how did you go about it (have someone else do it? DIY? How?)?

isnt that what the glovebox is for? well in an emergency that's too far away i guess. me i'd make a zippered puch in hte front seat (like at teh front of the seat) and then jsut cut out a bit of foam to make it look stock. cant get any closer than that...

under the seat maybe for easy reach. other than that I dont know what to tell you. I have a 24'' baton under my seat

I would put it down by your driver side leg attached close to your seat, on the center council kind of hanging down to the floor, if your right handed its probably the best place for it other than in your lap, then put one mag in the glovebox and the other keep in the pistol.

I wouldnt suggest anything in the door because the last thing you want is for the pistol to fall out into the street.

I also have a CCW permit, but most of the time when I'm in the car I'll have my pistol either in my hip holster or shoulder holster, depending on what I'm wearing. Having it on the hip can get uncomfortable for long trips, so I usually take out the gun and put it in my glove box. The glove box is big enough to hold some decent sized pistols. It fits my Glock 34 which is an extended slide version of the regular Glock 17.

Hey you could do the Pass. airbag delete but leave the airbag cover and make it openable, kinda far away but would make a cool hiding spot

lol..... welcome to cali?

when I was a kid my uncle kept his 357 and holster on the dash lol

That's what my next door neighbor does... retired cop....

As far as the original post, I would say that between the console and seat is a bad place. Because if someone saw it, it doesn't take much to break the glass and get it. I'd say the glove box would be the safest/ easiest place for it.

You may want to be careful about concealing the weapon in your car.

According to Virginia State Police, the weapon must physically be on your person turning transport (i.e. a motor vehicle). If it is not on your person for transport, the weapon must be wrapped and/or locked and unloaded.

Get like a small 380, and get a ankle strap for it. Hip Hostlers are very uncomfortable. Welcome to Fort Bragg.

I keep mine in my underwear [hihi]

I like the pouch on the front of the seat cushion idea.
Much closer than the glove box, very easy to reach.
My Volvo had a pouch there, it was great.

OK, I said I wouldn't share this cause I thought it would never come up. But oh well. I made one for a buddy with a 06 ZX4. We used the cd holder. Modify it a little by removing the top portion and make a slick little holder that secures around the trigger guard.
He flips down the cd holder and has reach right on access to the rear end of his piece, a glock. The one I made him had a slight angle to make reaching for the gun more natural. He wanted it on that side because he shoots with both hands but holds with the left. Looks like your about to roll the window down if you see it from outside the car.

I did the same thing, but I wasn't sure if the '00-'04 Foci had the same setup for CD's.

And in Colorado, you don't need a CCW to carry a loaded pistol or revolver in your car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, horse, or any othe mode of private transportation.

I think it depends on what your intentions are, is it for transporting when in the car instead of retaining on you, or for keeping in the car at all times.....

the side pocket? keep the mags in the center console pocket or under the seat.

is the CCW thing so that you can carry a concealed weapon? how do you go about getting that?

I have an very good story to go along with this. My sister-in-law's parents (he modifies automatic weapons for a living) were driving home one night and they noticed they were being followed. So they pulled over hoping they would keep going. They didn't and pulled over as well. One guy got out and asked where the closest gas station was. So her dad told him there weren't any close by. The guy then said "You know I don't need any [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]* gas" and started reaching for the door handle.

It was at that time her dad started reaching over to grab his pistol from underneath his seat and proceeded to smack his head against his wife's since she was doing the same thing. The would be "car jacker" noticed this and quickly left. HAHA!

Back on subject, what about somehow fabbing up a mount underneath the dash area on either the passenger or driver's side?

How about a couple of velcro straps right under the steering column on the flat panel area under there? One for the gun and the other for a clip. If you need it it's practically right there in your lap, but I know nothing about guns, it's just a guess.

^^ LOL.
The shop I used to work for did a car that had a pop up in center console for a Mac10. The vehicle belonged to one of the members from Korn, "Fieldy". The base of the clip was held in place so when it popped up there was nothing stopping you from grabbing it in the "go" position!! Loved that shit.
Also have done one in the floor boards of a full size Chevy, passenger side area at the feet. Figured worst case scenario, you go for the weapon and take a couple in the back, but you get to return fire with an auto concealed in the floor.

And as far as the focus owners go, even my wife carries a something similar to a "pepperbox". Single shot 10 gauge pistol for those of you that don't know. When I got it for her I showed her how to use it. Just wait for the attacker to get within arms reach, boom, take that arm clean off. It'll shred a phone book in half from about a foot away, hope she never has to use it, cause THAT is gonna be messy!

why use guns, i have explosives wired to me seat, if i get jacked, i push the button i keep in my pocket and the theive dies, its brilliant

but i was thinkin about this last week, if i got a concealed weapons permit where would i put it, id prolly make a holder under the seat, say you getting jacked, you bend down as you get out and grab it, let em hope it then pop that muh futher in the stomach, or head and get your car back

JAMUS
02-13-2008, 07:46 PM
that or have an ejection seat that smashes the theifs head into the roof killing him. Then when you get back in your car you just have to buckle the seat back in. Then again, we are not in mythbusters or pimp my ride to make some crazy hydrolic air contraption. It would be neat.

Ok, didn't read all the replies so if this is a repeat.....continue on.

I assume this would be for when you're in the car, not for when the car is unattended. With that said, i suggest:

1. Holster type afixed to the right side of the drivers seat (assuming you're right handed) or...afixed to the front of the drivers seat (between both legs). They do make a sleeve that your gun will fit into that gets attached to the seat.

2. If you do a lot of driving and wear pants, an ankle holster works well for this application. You can gain access to the pistol mounted on the inside of your left ankle while in the "sitting" position. When i travel long distances, i carry a .38 J frame on the ankle just for that reason.

3. I would not recommend just leaving it on your lap. Stop short or get into a wreck and you'll lose the gun.

You could always get that thing they sell in south africa, if your afraid of getting car jacked, it re directs gasoline from your tank to two flame throwers mounted undernieth the drivers and passengers doors. All you got to do is hit a switch mounted down by your foot, and anyone around your car gets a little crispy.

I suppose it really depends on if you want to keep the gun as either full time car or take it with you when you finish your commute. I dont have a CCW license yet, but my friends that have thiers always shove the pistol inbetween thier seat and the center council, or they leave it holstered on them.

My first reply was for if you were going to remove it from the car once you are done driving, but didnt want to have it directly on you. Personally I wouldnt ever leave a gun in the car once I got out, unfortunatly many places you cannot legally carry a gun into even with a CCW license, such as a school, any sort of bar, i even think hospitals, i know i had to go through a metal detector when i went into Grady Hospital.

If you want a place to keep the gun, with the quickest ability to pull it out if need be, then a shoulder holster is the best, however with these holsters if you need to go somewhere like a school you cant take the gun with, I would suggest placing some sort of pistol gun safe in your car for the temporary storage if you have to go to these places, plus you can bolt that safe to your car, so no one can take the safe without taking the car.

After reading some of the responses, I will comment further...

First of all, you do not want to keep the gun "shoved in between" seat, legs, or anything else unholstered. That is unsafe and just not smart. Try and have your gun always holstered unless your using it. As any good gun user or CCW holder will tell you, your gun is an absolute FINAL resort. If your in that bad a neibhorhood where common carjacking is happening, always be aware of your surroundings and be ready to hit the gas if you see someone or something suspicious. That being said, like I said before, I carry my sidearm, in a Serpa holster, concealed in my glovebox. If someone outside your car presents a threat, what better weapon than a moving 2000+ pound ram???

I'm thankful that I've never had to draw on somebody, and that most conflicts that could've gone bad quickly I've either escaped with either talking, loudly talking, or simply running away. There is no shame in any of that!

But like I said, my gun is in my glove box, as soon as I park, it transistions to my hip. Someone mentioned a shoulder holster, that would be a good alternative as well for shorter trips, but keep in mind that the seatbelt might get in the way of normal drawing operation.

I just hope that some of ya'll think a little before making some of the comments like ya'll have. Just cause it's cool to have it on "your lap" or under your radio doesn't always make it safe. Think about if a police officer walked by your car and saw you with a pistol on your lap or clearly visible in your car...Your asking for a bad day!

Just use common sense here guys and gals, the last thing you want is to put somebody in a box or end up in a box when there are hundreds of other options viable...
