I posted this in the rally section but I don't think anyone goes to that section so I'll repost here..
Hi... I'm really new to the whole rally scene.. I just sold my Cobra so there goes all my street fun... I've been thinking about turning the Focus from a boring ol daily driver to a fun car to rally in
I need to get some new tires for it soon, I was wondering what would you recommend for the Focus? Since I snowboard a lot, what are some good winter tires (to get up the snowy mountain roads and to rally.. haha)? And what are some good tires for daily driving (with some rallying on the side as well?)

I saw this post in the other section.
I'll leave it here for now.
I was hoping that Geezer would step in since he has a lot of experience with winter tires and rally.
I would recommend that you send him a PM with your question.

You can get away using some winter tires for rally use but if you're seriously into rally, dedicated tires are needed. While just about any winter tire will work for rallycross, for real rally (stage rallying) something with beefy sidewalls is needed. I was using Cooper and Mastercraft (identical tire made by Cooper) on my rally car (I believe they were called wintermaster or weathermaster). They were one of the only winter tires that had a relatively open aggressive tread and two ply sidewalls. Most snow tires only have one ply sidewalls like their street counterparts. Real rally tires have four or more plies in the sidewalls and have reinforced ribbing in the sidewalls. Real rally tires are also terrible street tires so don't even consider using them for daily driving. Rally tires wear really fast and don't handle well when used on pavement.
My recommendation would be to look for a winter tire that has a single rubber formulation (not blends like Blizzaks etc.) and at least two ply sidewalls. Most tires that can be studded usually do not have blended or layered compounds. As a result they last a little longer and won't tear themselves to pieces the first time you use them. A Blizzak or similiar tire will literally melt and/or rip tread blocks off the tire when used on gravel roads (even under rallycross conditions).
Not sure if you want an "all in one" tire, or dedicated snow and summer/rally tire. I have been looking for "all season" high performance tires for our two Subarus. So maybe this is not exactly the answer you are looking for but...
One thing I have found is Goodyear gets pretty high marks from Subaru Outback XT owners. That car is about as fast, if not a little faster than our SVT. But the car is way off the ground, has fairly soft suspension, and most Subie owners need to compromise between performance and all road/all weather capability.
Two tires that seem to really stand out are the Goodyear F1 All Season and Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS. The Goodyears have the advantage of not only having a Kevlar sidewall, but a Kevlar ply as well. So they are tough.
If you are looking for individual snow and summer tires, I have a recommendation for summer. I switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's, and they go perfectly with the SVT. I think a couple of others run them with nothing but high praise. They would make a great rally tire.
Only caution on all the tires I mentioned - they are expensive.
