Are you sure it's the shifter cable and not a faulty solenoid? Sounds like a solenoid problem

I didn't think there was a "cable." I thought it was more like a solid piece of steel cylinder.
If it feels like it's going out of gear and jerking back into gear then I'd start looking at the solenoids.

well there is a cable, it goes from the bottom of the shifter, out of the firewall, across the tranny onto the front side (facing the front of the car) where it toggles a lever that moves you through gears based on the pcm granting permission to do so

yes XP ... your right ! there is a cable that goes to a kind of chnger.
I can make the chnges by hand direct to this changer, but the shifter knob dont. That's why I suspect of that cable ... but Im newby tooo.

the cable looks good ... with a kinda leak of oil around it, is not loose. I will try to get some pictures of it.

you're having solenoid problems
try unhooking the negative terminal on your battery for 5 minutes then hook it up again and see if the car drives any differently

Okido ....
In the picture we see the posistions (aprox) corresponding at the knob. Oki the changer turns right the problem is that when we move fromn P --> D the cable moves but the black plastic part remains at its position ... when we move to "2" then back to "D" we forze that plastica part to move right.
Thats why I thinking its a "cable" adjust
thakns for your time ....

I don't understand how the cable can move but the changer does not ???
have ford look at it and tell you the problem but don't let them fix it, free solutions are the best :-D

yeah ...
with plastic part I mean that one who has the arrows with the NON capital letters. they both makes a kinda, hydraulic cylinder.
And if I go to ford service I have to paid $ 60.00 just for the "have a look", so....
