I'm helping my sister with her 2001 Ford Focus SE. She hit a pole a few weeks ago. Passenger Side Tie rod is bent pretty bad. Took the tie rod off at the ball joint(the end connected to the wheel assembly) but can't get the big ball joint under the dust boot that is connected to the steering gear off. Tried to go at it with some vice grips but it barely budges and there's no room for leverage at all. Any advice or suggestions on how to get it off?

It is almost impossible, but do-able. We had to do the same thing on my son's ZX3. You need to get a reasonably big pipe wrench to get enough leverage to get it off. The angle is tough but if you jack the front up enough to get the wrench under the car, kinda straight up and down, you can get in there and break it free. It's tough, but you can do it. Ford says lower the whole sub-frame with the steering gear on it and then remove the tie-rod! Make sure the boot gets back in place AND the tube that connects the left and right boots together.
