I prefer the filler on the pass. side.......it gives you plenty of room to open the driver's door without banging it on the pumps or the raised pump island or stanchions etc., especially with some stations that don't have a lot of room around the pumps. My Nissan Maxi has the filler on the driver's side.......I prefer the Focus in this reguard.

Because, like alot of other "normal" people. They didn't really care where the fuel door ended up... I actually wish it could have been somewhere on the trunk. hehe /sarcasm

IDK, Im pretty sure it's not the fact that europeans drive on the left side of the road; or else the Escort's would of been like it. I had 2 escorts and was use to the fact that the tank was on the drivers side; and was embarrassed a couple of time I had my focuse thinking that the tank was still on the left hand side.

yeah I drove a 94 Accord for a while that had the tank fill on the drivers side. Probably the first 5 times after I got the focus I was quite embarrassed having to turn the car around to access the right side. lol

LOL I was thinking about this the other day. It's a pain when you wanna go to the closest gas station to your house but it's also the busiest in town [xx(]

Maybe its an unspoken rule in the car industry, but I would bet that most cars that come with a single exhaust outlet from the factory, you will find the filler door on the other side of the car. Seems logical to me, until they decided to make factory-spec dual exhaust cars, then it goes out the window.....but I will bet that its a HEFTY percentage.

Good theory but my neons exhaust exits on the passenger side, same as the gas door. However the exhaust does come from the center of the car on the drivers side (beside the tank) and then across the back to the passenger side so the exhaust would be near the filler tube if it were on the drivers side..................................................................... you are correct.

P.S.- My freightliner at work rolls the windows the same way as a focus. Now if only the ignition key was on the left in the focus.

i've heard the same thing. and have noticed it to be true on all my cars. my newest car though. it almost on the trunk, but on the passenger side.

I like it on the passenger side because of the door banging and also there's not a lot of other cars with it on the passenger side so it's a little easier to get to a pump without waiting in line.

While I'm not sure this plays any part in deciding where to put it, it's also safer in the event that you run out of gas and need to refuel on the side of the road.
