: Ford in WRC
ineedtafocus 12-29-2007, 10:09 PM why is it that subaru is all we ever hear about? subbie even had a big booth at sema this year. while they are getting wasted by ford and citroen?? according to wrc.com. you would think that ford would use this as an advertisement...advantage?...
but no subaru does.
idk it just strikes me wierd...
ktwelsch 12-29-2007, 10:11 PM haha I agree.... I think Subi talks it big because you can actually buy their car here in the US.....
I did email citroen no lie like a day ago...and they said they are considering coming back to the US.... Boy oh Boy would i like a hooked up Citro C4. :D
ktwelsch 12-29-2007, 10:13 PM well this was actually there response....more of a negative one now that I look back.
Dear Sir Welsch,
Thank you for your interest in CITROËN.
We have been deligted to read the richness and relevance of your remarks.
We study this possibility with great attention, keeping in mind what would be the chances, resources and opportunities ofthe Northern American market for our business.
Yet, such a decision shouldn't be taken too rapidly, and without having measured its implications for our society.
Therefore, we cannot confirm our will to return to the US.
But nothing is definitly frozen. For this reason, we transmit your message to our Marketing department.
Best regards.
Miss Desprès
Customer Service.
ineedtafocus 12-29-2007, 10:24 PM thats pretty cool, it would be awesome if they came back over, i think their hatches look good, but not as good as euro fofo
you live in lynchburg? i have like 5 friends that go to liberty U.
ktwelsch 12-29-2007, 10:35 PM haha no way.. :D I too am a LU student....bored outa my mind while everyone is gone. :D
back in black 12-29-2007, 10:43 PM umm, Ford does use the WRC wins for advertising with those "WRC Manufacturers Title '07" commercials. Also makes sense to not overdo it, because we can buy nothing close to a performance based AWD version in NA
nepafocus03 12-30-2007, 04:55 AM yeah it would just be kind of depressing if they showed video of a sweet euro focus sliding around in the dirt, then had to show our 08 at the end like "hey, the badges look the same!"
ktwelsch 12-30-2007, 08:16 AM haha^^^^thats funny. :D

ya....ford did use the WRC a little bit, i remmeber seeing commercials for the 07 SAP package foci, and it said, "rally inspired"
killer ZETEC 12-30-2007, 10:04 AM that letter fro mcitroen sounds like they are planning someting but aren wanting to leak anything out yet.
Mr-914 12-30-2007, 11:09 AM Subaru and Mitsu are still recognized for their WRC cars because their street cars are so much closer what a WRC car. Evo and STi both have turbo charged engines, AWD and crazy electronics like adjustable centre-diffs or yaw control.
What does Ford have? A FWD 130 hp, normally aspirated car featuring color changing accent light. 'nuff said!
S0C0nFused 12-30-2007, 11:28 AM I have always thought of WRC as more of a Euro sport. Hence the cars/advertising is more focused there. But Hey! We got NASCAR [sleeping]
guitarseth 12-30-2007, 12:31 PM Subaru also campaigns cars in North American rally events, so they actually have a factory supported rally program in North America, whereas Ford just brings their cars over for one weekend a year (and Mexico gets the Euro Focus, so its good marketing for them).[dunno]
DURATECoftheDesert 12-30-2007, 12:34 PM Not everything revolves around subaru, before them in wrc it was all audi that took glory and controversy and created a big'o ego for them.

Back in the 70's & 80's.
c9ollie 12-30-2007, 06:47 PM i think its because, you can come close to owning a real WRC subaru. there are thousands of parts for them. so you can have a taste of what a WRC car feels like. you can make a highly competative rally car with a subaru and a catalog.
but ford, you just cant get a pice of that rally experience. there are hardly any companies making parts. Also you could never get close to owning a 4 wheel drive semi rally car. its like Renualt advertizing there formula one car to help sales of there clios. they are worlds apart. if ferrari advertized its F1 car to help sales of f430s thats a different story because they are in the same relative realm.
a ferrar f1 its closer to ferrari road car than a renault fi is to its cars. see what im getting at
a subaru rally car is closer to a showroom subaru than a ford rally car to its showroom version.

nepafocus03 12-31-2007, 04:04 PM i agree a lot of people in this country couldnt give a crap about wrc or focuses. i was at someones house one day this summer and thet had teh xgames on with that fake, really short, rally driving sort of auto-x thing on. and they all drove subarus. i said they should have focuses and the kid whos house we were at was like a focus cant keep up with a wrx!! then my gf said "the focuses in europe are turbocharged, dont get him started about me"
lol. she can be cool sometimes haha.
wrc_fan 12-31-2007, 04:23 PM IMO I think ford will never build a commercially available WRC level focus because it would outperform (or very close to) a Mustang GT, the marketing guys would never allow that.
I've been hoping for a decade now that rally would become popular in the US, but now that you can't even watch it on [gunfire] speed anymore.
Also, with all the talk about the Citroen don't forget that the Peogot 206 was a dominating force in 99-02, and Peogot like ford never offered an all wheel turbo version.
Pistonbroke 12-31-2007, 06:43 PM I wouldn't even want an AWD car for the type of driving I do. Too much weight and drag. -kills performance and gas mileage.
Wazzer 12-31-2007, 09:20 PM If Volvo makes an "R" version of the C30, that will be as close to a Euro Focus ST(?) that we'll get. (5 cyl, turbo, possibly AWD)
