: What will your next car be?
Sid03SVT 12-26-2007, 10:28 AM with the lack of the SVT model back in 2005, and the more recent lack of hatchback in 2008 its got me thinking, what would my next car be? and now I'm wondering what other people think, if its a focus, then its a focus, if its other let me know what other is.
WitchCitySVT 12-26-2007, 10:30 AM I'm probably going to go with a C30 v2.0 or a GTi.
Sid03SVT 12-26-2007, 10:41 AM I'll start, I chose other, for the reasons stated above, No SVT model and No hatchback model, the focus is pretty much not happening for me.
my car will probably be a step backwards, since I don't like any new cars. I'm leaning towards either a fox mustang (love those hatches), or maybe a 99 cobra for the IRS, regardless it will be a RWD car, I'm not convinced that FWD is that much better in the winter since I've driven both, and honestly my RWD car was easier to regain control in when the rear end decided to get away from me. AWD options are out, since there is nothing out there in my price range that offers what I want in upgrades, performance, durability, or styling; the closest AWD cars that foot the bill is the 99 eclipse GSX, which everyone knows are riddled with gremlins, and the new STI which is aparently madeout of solid gold with platinum accents. The last ditch though i can come up with is to build a V-8 conversion ZX3 (not from my SVT of course, that would be sacrilege) so I can keep my focus size, but gain that beautiful V-8 rear drive and durability.
Focus112 12-26-2007, 10:52 AM Possibly the new Fusion ST
Duffman355 12-26-2007, 10:59 AM A Vette or a Stang or GTO maybe
SuperFocusMan 12-26-2007, 11:06 AM Other, when my situation is straight in a couple of years and I get my degree in my field, I will probably be looking into an Infinity g35 or equiv. Need a step up from the Focus (will probable keep it though)
I voted "other."
Even if Ford brings another "fun" Focus to the states, I'll probably look elsewhere but keep the Focus on my short-list. If they stay as-is, they won't even be on my radar. I'm looking to step up from the SVT with my next purchase, and it's hard to see the new Focus as anything but a big step back in performance and style (I'm a sucker for a hatch).
I'm hoping to squeeze a good 5 years out of the SVT and then look for a used version of a '08 or '09 something. Maybe a 'speed3 or WRX hatch.
I doubt I'll be in financial shape to buy something new that steps up from the SVT, so the timing will probably be wrong for the Focus even if there is something worth considering.
Carrera26 12-26-2007, 11:23 AM Other, getting my wife a Mazda 3 2.3S Hatch for a family car, and I am required to buy a winter car by next winter in order to keep my RX-8. That might actually be a Focus, but it might also be a TDi VW or older N/A Subaru.
Ford has lost the plot for me on the Focus. At least in the US... The Mazda3 is the closest I can get right now.
gratefullife 12-26-2007, 11:24 AM Other. The flavor of the week is currently an STI. It's going to be a while regardless and I'm hoping to hold on to this car, but I'm looking to move on. Just going to have to see when the time comes and see where I'm stationed at or going to.
06focuskid 12-26-2007, 11:36 AM well either a used ms3,03-04 lightning or 03-04 cobr
But I like the lightning the most it would be very pleasing to hand a vett its ass[spank] in the quarter with a pick up.[hihi]
with a little [wrenchin]
FocusStrider 12-26-2007, 12:08 PM Euro Focus ST (only if thats possible, i know it's not)... Mazda 3 2.3 for sure.. (probably will keep my focus as well)...
killer ZETEC 12-26-2007, 12:31 PM depends on what ford has in another 3 years but most likely a focus
dirtbrown 12-26-2007, 12:34 PM Probe GT
cobra
GTO
ls1 Trans Am 00
06 gti
stivo 12-26-2007, 12:50 PM Unless the 2009-2010 Focus is the euro model I will be looking at something else. Don't know what yet though... I like the HP of the Mustang (and especially the looks of the new Roush), but I love the handling of the little cars. Mileage is a factor as well with gas upwards of $3.50/gallon.
Don't know yet.
03OrangeSVT 12-26-2007, 01:21 PM I'm looking at the BMW M5 myself.
bigjordan 12-26-2007, 01:27 PM newer miata or an s2000. definitely an elise within the next 5 or so years.
svteuro88 12-26-2007, 01:34 PM Other, S2000 is first on the list only cause I love Honda's. BUT I would love g35 or equivalent when the time comes. Gotta be rwd or awd next time around.
Tugboat 12-26-2007, 01:40 PM hopefully a mazdaspeed 3
currahee440 12-26-2007, 01:46 PM Not a Focus anymore, I personally don't like loud car engines and I think the Focus is a bit on the loud side. It's quite annoying as I barely hear any road noise from the tires whereas the BMW we have has a quiet engine but we can hear incredible amounts of road noise from the tires. Of course thats just a minor annoyance I still love my fofo, but there are other reasons which I will not tell because its forbidden by the rules ;) and i think you all know what it is..
I personally am opting for something more fuel efficient than the Focus. It was a shock to me when I told my friends it got an average of 26MPG and they said it was pretty good. I was thinking that pretty good would mean around 34MPG combined which I think the Japanese cars or hybrids will get just fine.
iantm 12-26-2007, 01:51 PM Well, I'm on focus #2, and well it's the same as the old car, just more nicely equipped (in some ways). There really isn't anything else out there that suits me the way that my 02 and the 07 focus that replaced it do. However, if my 07 were to get toasted in a wreck, I'd probably live without a car for a few weeks, get an old bmw or volvo cash, and enjoy life with one less car payment until I have enough money socked away to get whatever I want without worry.
So, barring my car getting toasted in a wreck, it's going to be at least five, hopefully ten years before I replace my focus. (I'll be happy to get five years out of it, as my 02 died a little after it turned 5)
stivo 12-26-2007, 01:54 PM newer miata or an s2000. definitely an elise within the next 5 or so years.
Those 3 are on my list too... no trunk space though.
When I'm rich I'll get an M5.
I'll be looking at the 09 MS3's, window shopping the evox/sti/1 series and as always I'll keep an eye out for nice lightly-used deals on say, an evo VIII.
Preferably I'd like my next ride to be AWD and turbo from the factory.
CodeR3D 12-26-2007, 02:13 PM Something RWD. My current obsession is the 350z, but who knows if I will be getting that. I am just happy to be driving my Focus right now. :)
bigjordan 12-26-2007, 02:35 PM Those 3 are on my list too... no trunk space though.
you get used to it.
patalrob 12-26-2007, 03:00 PM Depends on what is offered for a focus in about 4 years otherwise also depends on what else is on the car maket. Hopfully a hatch ST Focus!
egbertnr 12-26-2007, 03:51 PM F250 Diesel truck.....to haul my focus to and from the track.
03OrangeSVT 12-26-2007, 04:14 PM F250 Diesel truck.....to haul my focus to and from the track.
or the shop [poke][neener] [neener]
Dathlok X 12-26-2007, 04:44 PM I am hoping to find me a used Focus Wagon for my DD when I decide to start looking when my SVT pays off
zzr4u2nv 12-26-2007, 04:45 PM It's funny......everyone's talking about more expensive cars and higher horsepower when I just got rid of a perfectly good 05 Level 2 Ranger with several aftermarket parts for the cheaper and much better on gas Focus..........LOL
and before the Ranger I had a 02 300m Special........I miss that car, It was gorgeous!!! All black, lowered, ground effects, and 18's The tranny went out several times in the 2 years I owned it though so I got rid of it for the Truck.
I'm actually enjoying driving a nice small car with good gas mileage.....So far I'm averaging 26mpg with the Foci where I was roughly 14-16 with the Level 2, and 17-19 with the 300.
NA_built13 12-26-2007, 04:52 PM well i know im keeping my focus forever...but im going to need something to tow it around from track to track...so im going to get a Nissan Armada in a couple years...plus im moving to NY and need a 4wd vehicle and something that can drive through snow
CJohn364 12-26-2007, 06:07 PM I have to admit that if I trade my Focus in. I'll look into getting an Evo.
azdamay 12-26-2007, 06:52 PM 06+ GTI, MS3, GTO, or the oddball choice... Subaru Forester XT.
Maybe a truck.
Sorry, new Focus owners, but the current Focus doesn't compel me to go Focus again.

Only logical choice here, hehe. Its a beautiful work of art and German Engineering.
Volkswagen GTI MkV
Here is someone's review on it: To funny
2006 Volkswagen GTI Mk V
I hate this car. Not because it has terrible performance or lame looks — quite the contrary. I hate this car because it's making me second guess my choice of purchasing a 2006 Civic a couple months ago. I'm pretty sure I should have waited. The all-new Volkswagen GTI Mk V (starting at $21,990) has a 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder engine producing 200-hp, an aggressive body and all the hatchback utility you could want. It's also got awesome plaid seats, a 6-disc in-dash CD changer, 32 mpg on the highway, 17-inch wheels and Xenon projector beam headlights. Early reviews say the fifth-generation GTI has all the speed, handling and class of the European version. As Volkswagen's great commercials say, the GTI is pre-tuned by German engineers.
azdamay 12-26-2007, 07:19 PM I'm drawn to the GTI but held back by two things, bragging rights (it's definitely low on power compared to other cars) and the prospect of questionable VW reliability. There's been much said about VW's efforts to make the Mk. V a better and more reliable car than the previous, but it seems like owners are still having issues.
boca202 12-26-2007, 07:45 PM I think the message is clear nobody wants the new focus, it does not have anything related to the old one and it's even far from the european one. I may get a wrx or a scion tc.
1stTimeFocus00 12-26-2007, 10:12 PM SEL Fusion 5 speed I4 =)
Itll be in like 6 years though. Focus needs to last for rest of college and 1st year of the Army until i get stationed at my main base
back in black 12-26-2007, 10:22 PM I'm almost totally decided that I want one of these when summer rolls 'round, the Malibu Maxx SS. They also don't make the hatches anymore, so I'm going to try to find the newest '07 that I can. I'm set on getting another hatchback after having the ZX5, and I think the Maxx looks waaay more badass than any of the other hatches (toyota, pontiac etc).
http://www.image4u.org/jonstyles/2406422_1_full.jpg
If I can't find a decent Maxx SS, I would consider looking for another Focus very similar to the one I had. I loved the look and amazing utility that my car had, and had very few complaints about it.
So I voted 'Other', but I'm almost certainly getting either a black '07 Malibu Maxx SS (80%) or a black '07 Focus ZX5 SES (20%)
Brindfan 12-26-2007, 10:30 PM Way too early to decide. I had my Escort GT for 14 years.
Jenny_deans 12-26-2007, 10:32 PM Well, this is my second zx3.. I crashed my first one and loved it so much that I had to get another one.. But for my next car, I'm thinking nice convertible.. OR Jeep with mudders... lol either or!
stoopidsteve87 12-26-2007, 10:49 PM my next car...idk, but it'll be the biggest decision of my life, lol. a sports car of some sort. i'm young. i'm dumb. i'm a college student. army rotc is covering tuition, so i don't have too much debt out of college. and i'll still be young and dumb. i'll likely keep the focus, but add a sports car.
SVT_BMXer 12-26-2007, 10:55 PM My next car could be anything from a MkII GTI to a new WRX...I can't say cause I plan on keeping the SVT for awhile.
Chick 12-26-2007, 11:53 PM I have idea what my next car will be. I'm too happy with with what we own now so it might be a while.[:)]
kenzx3 12-27-2007, 12:03 AM I voted Focus, I don't know yet what the future holds but who says you gotta buy an '08? I just bought focus #2 about 2 weeks ago so after I convert the '03 into an autocross car and take the '07 and make it for show, I'll need a DD so maybe like a year from now I'll by a beater focus.
blackfocus2k4 12-27-2007, 12:24 AM ford is pretty much killed off the focus the newer models are ugly!!! If i had to pick a car it would probly be a mazda 3 because of the price & gas i just dont feel like spending 30,000 dollars on a car when the economy is crap right now!!!
thisdude_05 12-27-2007, 12:28 AM Well if I ever decide to sell my fofo, which I highly doubt, I would consider getting a Scion TC. I like the body style and potential for power.
blackfocus2k4 12-27-2007, 12:31 AM not bad price for a scion tc a kid i know had the manufacturer put a supercharger on it but the prob is he has been thrue 3 of them cause they are under warranty.so yeah dont get the trd supercharger!!

Take it from me...
http://www.geojensen.com/images/misc/dnw.jpg
The outgoing Malibu is a horrible car. I drive an '08 "classic" (2004-7 bodystyle sold as an '08) as my company car and the car has been nothing but trouble. Feels cheap inside and out and is designed for old people. The only positive attribute I can credit to it (aside from racking miles up on somebody else's car other than my own) is it gets you from point A to point B in a reasonable degree of comfort and it handles better than a truck. I'm sure the SS is slightly better with the 3.9 V6 (which only makes about 23 more HP with .4L more displacement than the 3.5 V6) and stiffer suspension, but its still the same car with the same 4-speed automatic transmission.
I'd hold out for the 2008 built on the Epsilon "extended" chassis (same as the G6) and with an Opel-sourced 3.6L V6 that makes about 260 HP and its superior 6-speed automatic.
Anyways, back on topic...my next car will most likely be from a Ford subsidiary unless we get a performance model based on the Euro Focus in 2011. My dad's aunt was a mid-level executive at Dearborn for 30 years and as part of her retirement package she can pass on X-plan discounts (4% above employee pricing...so around 16% off invoice) four times per year to her friends and family. Assuming she can get them on Mazda or Volvo products I'll either be getting a MS3 or Volvo C30.

I would get an '08, but they aren't making the hatchback version anymore... I'm also not looking for anything more than a point a to point b car, as long as it looks good and handles cargo well. As long as it's easy to throw a canoe on the roof and there's lots of room in the back for a couple paddles, I'm probably gonna get one.
Maybe I'm not as 'car enthusiast' as most people on here, but thats all I want in a car :p
blackfocus2k4 12-27-2007, 01:29 AM get a audi a4 thats class!~!!!!!

razorrik 12-27-2007, 09:03 AM wow,,thats a large margin,,i know its only 43 votes right now,,but out of 43,,thats what?36 people or somewhere in there who say there getting anything but a focus..
03OrangeSVT 12-27-2007, 09:10 AM I bought my SVT just to play with until I felt that I would want something else... I have pushed mine farther on the stock engine than anyone else (365whp on STOCK internals on 93 octane)
Now I'm getting ready to blow past the 400whp on 93 octane... but with a built engine..... its just time to move on to somethng different to play with.
Cajun Boy876 12-27-2007, 09:19 AM Either a 2004 Cobra or a 2008 MS3

I could not have said it better about the Malibu/Malibu Maxx myself. The Maxx could have been something truly great - but it got horribly screwed up along the way. The cargo capacity of it is barely better than the existing Malibu sedan (one of the perks of owning a Malibu is that you get to drive new cars frequently courtesy of the warranty's rental coverage - we've rented a bunch of Maxx's, Malibu', and Grand Prix's). It's a horrid car - for hauling - I'd suggest an old (80's or 90's vintage) Volvo station wagon - it'll haul more, can have a v8 swapped easily, and be tons more reliable than a Malibu - shoot for a 700/900 series as those cars are impervious to rust unless they've been wrecked.
As for X-plan - it works at the Volvo dealer, but Mazda does something else. As the son of a former IBMer, and having a wife who works for Cigna - I'm pretty familiar with X-plan. X-plan works at Volvo, Jaguar, Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury. Mazda has something similar called S-plan, IIRC. Though, european delivery is an even better deal on Volvo's that X-plan pricing. (the car goes through customs as a "used car" and as such the duties are lower - thus the savings get passed to you - though you have to take initial delivery of it over there)
gukin 12-27-2007, 11:20 AM Oh man, you've got to get a "Smart" Passion. j-zetec_pr 12-27-2007, 01:47 PM i have no idea. i've only hd my focus fo a little over a year, so i'm really just getting started. i was pretty close to getting an SVTF, but with a monthly payment I wouldn't be able to afford any mods. i just decided to keep mine and mod it until i think it's perfect. in the end, i'll have something i like even more than an svtf for around the same money if not less.
Sid03SVT 12-27-2007, 02:35 PM Well I started looking into new cars I can afford, and I almost like the new Impreza (the WRX is out of my price range) but its SLOWER than my current SVT so it's out, its rediculous that as models "advance" they step backwards in performance AND in this case, fuel economy. Anybody out there have a 97-99 eclipse GSX lying around they wouldn't mind selling me cheap so I can restore it?

I was a little confused, I thought aja123fo was a car so I googled it. HAHA, I'm a dork.
Oh yeah, but to stay on topic, my next car would preferably be either a 1979 El Camino, 2008 Civic SI Sedan, or a 2005ish 350Z. One day I'd like to own all of them.
Onlyford4me 12-27-2007, 06:36 PM i've been thinking about this for a day or so and I can't think of an answer. I go through car "moods" where one day I'll want a truck, the next a two seater sports car, the next a big V8.

SAYTIN 12-27-2007, 09:30 PM If I was buying a "new car" now.... it'd probably be a honda civic sedan automatic.... never thought I'd be saying that. The new focus is terribly cheap feeling, and ugly... I am dissappointed in ford.
I plan on keeping my 2004 5 spd ZX5 for at least another 5 years, by then if all goes well it'll have over 200k on the car, like the good old Festiva.
XxXREDZX4 12-28-2007, 06:19 PM my next car will most likely be the Hyundai genesis coupe (if it looks anything like it's concept version)...from the looks and numbers of them they seem like sick lil cars for the money.
patalrob 12-29-2007, 02:49 PM Well I'm still not sure but when I was getting my oil chaged on the Foco at the local ford dealer the other day I was looking in the Motor Trend Mag. and saw that Holden might let the SportsWagon Seep into the Pontiac line up!!! A V8 wagon with a 6SPD!!! Mybe the Crewman might make it to!!! There is also the MazdaSpeed3 to little fast car!
William_Wallace 12-29-2007, 02:51 PM i plan on keeping the focus until im out of college and have a steady engineering career (~6 years). when that happens i think ill trade in the focus for some sort of awd car (STi, evo). but who really knows, by the time that happens there could be some very nice cars released.
dazada 01-03-2008, 04:15 PM I would really love a 1996 Impala SS.
DURATECoftheDesert 01-03-2008, 05:26 PM Is there an option for, buying another focus but also buying a mazda 3 at the same time?
BlackrSVT 01-03-2008, 06:20 PM 2005.5/06 Audi A4 2.0 Quattro
or
2005/06 Volvo S40 T5 AWD
or
2006/07 Subaru WRX Limited sedan/wagon
Trying to keep purchase price around $20k
N3M3S1SFOCI 01-03-2008, 07:25 PM Either:
Mustang GT convertible
Newer Miata
and keep the Focus as the winter car
other interesting more practical cars:
Lincoln LS
Acura TSX
94-96 Impala SS (yea dazada!!)
Mazda 6
Prolly won't run out like this, but it's nice to think so...
blackngold20 01-03-2008, 07:30 PM buick grand national(I wish)
MCL_STV 01-03-2008, 10:01 PM I'm going with a Ford Fusion, I've already got the SVT for a performance car, so I guess Ill go with a "family" sedan. I'm also going to look into getting a Power Stroke to haul the SVT to and from the track.
babaker 02-11-2008, 12:49 AM I bought my 2006 Focus ZX3 as a daily driver and I'm quite satisfied. I have the S model that has the same roll up windows as my 1969 Porsche. I'm diggin this car.

Khanaar 02-11-2008, 01:58 AM I'm trying to wait for the G8 ST
EnigmaArn 02-11-2008, 02:52 AM Going to try and find a Low Mileage AP1 Honda S2K.
diablorojo 02-11-2008, 03:10 AM Swing axle beetle.
FiaCobra 02-11-2008, 03:51 AM If this DD Focus doesn't work out, it's back to a '73 Duster. I do have my eyes on a '71 Dodge Demon.
razorrik 02-11-2008, 06:02 AM up in the air.
aja123fo 02-11-2008, 12:30 PM scion tC...getting one in a couple weeks!
foci01 02-11-2008, 12:32 PM If Ford gives the Fusion the same powerplant as the Mazdaspeed6 I'm all for that.
mighty_mouse 02-11-2008, 12:33 PM I've narrowed it down to three
Volkswagon R32
or
Mazda Speed 3
or(not a car)
Crotch Rocket - 600 minimum
Mouse
wrc_fan 02-11-2008, 12:47 PM My focus will be paid off once George W. can get those rebate checks out, so I'll be keeping it as a DD and look for a car that can be more of a toy (must be rear or all wheel drive).
I'd really like to do a '98-'01 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS coupe, and swap in a full STi drivetrain.
Or, maybe a low miles 350Z...or G35 coupe, a late '90s M3 coupe, or if I can find a lightly abused evo.
