just wondering if anybody else is having some problems with their zx5s???
so far mine is starting to idle roughly in neutral at around 48K miles...
brakes are getting soft...pedal is long and the pressure is somewhat decreased overtime???
the car is serviced and maintained very well and everything is normal except these 2 things??
anybody else having similar problems?
(there are no recalls on 2003 zx5s as far as I know)
also anybody in to rallying??? whatching speed on sundays for WRC or f1???

wow! 48K miles on a 03? damn! i have 32K on my 02 and thought i was really racking it up.
how rough is the idle. does it just stuble a little or does it feel like it's gonna die? it may just be that you need to replace the wires and plugs.
as far as the brakes go, if you are at 48K miles on stock focus brakes you must hold some sort of record! focus brakes are notorious for being cheap and porrly made. may just be time to upgrade.

I got my '03 ZX5 in October '02 and have just cracked 10,000 miles. As for the troubles you are having, the brakes are weak spot on the focus. Basically expect to get only 25K per go, so if you are double that, you are doing well. Sadly the brakes have self machining rotors on them, so you are most likely gonna have to replace both the pads and rotors, but it will make the brakes tight and responsive again and the petal feel will return. I had a 2000 SE Sport for 3 years and had the brakes done twice in that time, the car had only 36,250 miles on it when I upgraded to the ZX5. As for the idling, no idea what could be causing that, never had the problem. Good Luck! Whoever is servicing your vehicle should have noticed the brake where sooner than this though. Cheers

yeah travel a lot..can't help it man...kinda slowed down in the last few months and hope to keep it that way..the second hand value of focus is amazingly low!?!
the idle is not terrible..but when in neutral the RPM bounces between 750-600..and the engine gives a small vibration inside...when it is in Drive or when the AC is working it is fine..
you can feel the vib on the dash...
i recently changed the front rotors, pads and also rear pads... i would like to upgrade to Brembos sometime but not yet...what do you have for brakes? stock or mod?
i have drums in the rear so i'm not expecting whole lot from the brake system,...i would've liked to have rear discs instead of ABS (!)...
also i need to check the suspension since there is a weird feel when cornering...feels like the back end of the car is going to let go/// it might be that i switched from an acura to a focus, and that independent McPherson suspension is taking some time to get used to, but i dunno
I am looking to get Eibach springs may be they'll help....thnx man cheers....

I don't know what your talking about. They are cast iron rotors like most all cars. They are not "self machining" I think the brake pad material has been improved since the first problems. I have an '03 myself with 19,000 and the brakes still look new, and there isn't a lot of dust shed off the pads to clean on the wheels. I think the brakes now are very good.
