Ok, so out of all the engines for the focus, which has the best MPG, or can have the best MPG with all bolt-ons? I'm guessing it's between the standard Zetec and the Duratec 2.0, but I figured I would ask.

both my '01 zetec and my 07 2.0 dura are about the same.. of course the duratec still needs to loosen up a little :D

Honestly, I think it comes down to luck, driver and conditions. But that being said I think D20 would be best overall.

It's so close that it doesn't really make a difference.

I don't think my mom's SPI sedan ever got under 35mpg.

klondike has pushed 40 mpg in his focus. so yeah hybrid economy is doable in the duratecs

Indeed, since I live out in the open with minor to no traffic incidents, my roads being in the city but with highway streched roads I was happy to get 30 MPG in mixed driving conditions (Plus the fact that I half to dodge about a dozen military folks that like to act fricken crazy all the fricken time.)

I usually get 35 on average with my slightly modded zetec(see profile for mods). 40+ on the highway. I usually get about 300 miles to 3/4 of a tank, but I don't usually push it hard either.

I have got 39.5mpg with my '05 2.0 Duratech (pzev) and a 5sp manual trans on more than one occasion. But Generally I haver 35.5-36mpg hwy, but here HWY speeds are 70-80mph.

My 2000 Zetec and my 2007 Duratec are about the same. The Duratec is getting about 2mpg better right now, but it has a 5spd and the Zetec is an auto.

Zetec - 28.5 combined
Duratec - 30.5 combined

I'd probably say a 2.0 SOHC split port induction on the earliest foci are the best for mpg.... then 2.0 zetec, 2.0 duratec, 2.3 duratec, and worst is probably the SVT 2.0

Now I really can't figure out why I average 19-23 MPG on my Duratec and my old Zetec, and that's while babying it.

Hi, How does 47 mpg sound? The last vacation i took clocked up 850 miles in a week. Most of the distance was motorway (freeway) and i wasn't hanging around either, an average of about 65 mph over the fast road sections. My Focus is a U.K. spec 1.6 manual 5 door hatch. With fuel prices in the U.K. at over £1 a litre, and little chance of it ever dropping below that price, economy is the name of the game at the moment.

Best I got was 42 in the SVT on a highway trip, must have had a good tailwind though.

You must have had about a 100 mph tail wind! My SVT sucks with mileage! The best I've ever had on all highway is 26 and in the city it is a laughable 19-20.

Really? With the "highway tune" I was getting 38 a lot. This was the tune from HIA. It was awesome for long drives.
