: I'm very tall and I want a small car...
snowman_31 12-11-2007, 06:47 PM I am 6'6'' and I used to have a ford focus (just totalled...don't really want to talk about it), and I barely fit into it, and i couldn't by a manual tansmisson car becaue my knee was right up to the dash which lead to the whole problem of not being able to operate the clutch. I am looking at getting another focus, possible an SVT but the only way that can happen is if there is some way of modifying the seat runner or getting longer ones? Is this possible/does anyone have any experience with this. I am kind of desperate, because I don't want another sluggish automatic...please help!
Khanaar 12-11-2007, 07:31 PM cobalt? they're not as small but they do have a fair amount of seat runner movement, I'ma tall guy and i know how ya feel.
SquillyB 12-11-2007, 07:53 PM You can "alter" the runners.
I'm 6.5 ft also and around 200 lbs so I had to do this in my foci to be comfy. My buddy did it for me, used the runners from a ranger
bumblebee07 12-11-2007, 08:12 PM The Focus is the only compact car I could comfortably fit into. I'm used to driving large cars so I needed room. I test drove a G5 and my head hit the roof! I'm 5'8 170 lbs.
snowman_31 12-11-2007, 08:27 PM Thank you all to have already replied! Can you replace the runners with just hand tools?
Here's to the tall people!!!
CJohn364 12-11-2007, 08:39 PM Why do I suddenly feel so short. Oh wait, 5' 6", that's why. Hehehehe.
Confusious say, "Crowded elevator smell different to midget." LOL!!!
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to modify the runners. You should just be able to install longer ones.
PLracing 12-11-2007, 09:28 PM Try A VW Rabbit.
Buickboy 12-11-2007, 09:39 PM I know for a fact that my 07 has shorter runners than my 01 did. Maybe its a 05+ thing?

LOL
Stuka 12-11-2007, 10:42 PM I am just shy of 6ft 4in tall and I fit in my 05 with no issues. Plenty of head room, knees are a long way from the dash. Maybe the older ones had shorter runners, but I dont even have my seat all the way back.
blackheart4355 12-11-2007, 10:52 PM Hey,
I'm 6'2" and have tonnes of room in my 05. I have the seat bottom cranked all the way down and the seat about 3/4 of the way. Maybe you should try an 05+
snowman_31 12-11-2007, 11:06 PM I had an '05 and it was just totaled. It was ok with the automatic, but I could not operate the clutch on the manuals I test drove. So in need a few more inches to get my knee out of the dash.
BlackJack03 12-11-2007, 11:55 PM Hey, to tell you the truth, somehow the seat in my SVTF goes quite a bit further back than the seat in my ZTS. Can't guarantee it would be far enough for you in particular, but I am 6' tall almost exactly so...it goes back too far for me, maybe it'd go back just enough for you. I would recommend going and sitting in one just to see for yourself. Good luck dude.
Klondike 12-12-2007, 01:23 AM the zx3s rails are longer then a sedan or zx5, in my 03 auto 4 door i had the seat almost all the way back to be comfy, im only 5'9 but it felt right, now in my 07 zx3 i cant get it more then halfway back otherwise i cant reach the pedals, go and try a zx3 it may work for you
Stuka 12-12-2007, 08:20 AM the zx3s rails are longer then a sedan or zx5, in my 03 auto 4 door i had the seat almost all the way back to be comfy, im only 5'9 but it felt right, now in my 07 zx3 i cant get it more then halfway back otherwise i cant reach the pedals, go and try a zx3 it may work for you
Ahh thats what it is. I know with the seat all the way back in my ZX3 it is like 2" from the back seat, no way anybody could sit back there with it that far back.
Joshuasvt 12-12-2007, 08:25 AM I believe the new mini's were made to comfortably fit a 6'6' 230lb male.
WUGcatsvt 12-12-2007, 08:28 AM The SVT has an elelctricseat that goes down and up... Get the SVT
gukin 12-12-2007, 08:33 AM It depends on how you're tall. I'm 6'0" but have a long torso and short legs. My head is about 1" from the roof in my SVTF with the seat most of the way down. I've got plenty of leg room (for my 32" inseam legs.)
besthaticouldo 12-12-2007, 10:22 AM i fit in my 01 fine...im 6'4 as well. i dont even have the seat all the way back either.
BigRed03 12-12-2007, 10:45 AM someone mentioned it, but the seats crank up and down as well, rasing and lowering where your knees hit the dash.
def try a zx3/zx5/svt, more leg room for driver/front passenger
jman89 12-12-2007, 10:52 AM definatly do not get a sunroof that will kill headroom. but swaping seat runners sounds like your best bet, I wish I had thought of this I'm 6'4" and my knees are cramped I couldn't imagine driving a focus stick, My legs are super long.
WUGcatsvt 12-12-2007, 11:00 AM Get A Mussle Car...
MisterJohnson 12-12-2007, 05:35 PM I'm 6'2" and I fit in a Mini with the seat not all the way back and tons of head room, and I've heard the Pontiac Solstice will fit someone 6'6"
cafociguy 12-12-2007, 06:38 PM The 4 door focus is not as roomie as the 2 door for tall people I am 6'5 and I am comfortable in my 2 door but my wife used to have a 4 door before we got her Mustang and it wasn't as comfortable the driver side A-Pillar or B-Pillar which ever one is by your left arm was always in the way, but my ZX3's or SVT's are way better.
snowman_31 12-12-2007, 07:48 PM oh damn, I guess I'm going to have to go out and test drive a few SVT's and ZX3's...
Thank you all for the pointer on the two doors
