"I was very upset that there's that many dishonest people," she said. "They knew there was a problem, and they took advantage of an employee's mistake and I think that's terrible."

This made me laugh.. Because the Oil companies are completely honest and dont take advantage of any one at all.. HAHAH Serves them right

I Fill up for 42 canadian... When i bought it a fill up was 25... How much gas prices has rose in 5 years

Actually it'd come from the station owners' pocketbook and not the oil companies because the station buys gas beforehand.

When we had a Windstar van, it ate 18 gallons and it cost 24 dollars to fill. Now my car can stuff 9 gallons and it costs $25...

yeah thats true the owner of that store lost the money....im sure it costs them about 3 bucks a gallon to buy so they lost 2.7 a gallon and lost like 1000 gallons so OUCH

When I started driving there was a gas station at .87 a gallon. You would see me filling every container I could find at .30 a gallon. I might be able to afford a trip to go snowboarding at that price.

Actually, subtract 49.5 cents a gallon for the Federal and Wicsonsin taxes. That makes the net price $2.805 per gallon. Gas stations usually add just five to ten cents per gallon above their cost. So they paid somewhere between. $2.70 to $2.75 a gallon wholesale.

I wonder if the gas station owner was ranting about "dishonest people" in the days after 9/11 when most gas stations were charging upwards of $10/gallon and were taking advantage of the situation...

Somehow I doubt it.

to put it in perspective, a friend owns a station. his last tanker cost him 21,000$ for the load, plus the trucking cost...
so yeah, the owner lost, not the gas company

The people buying the gas were dishonest??? No, dishonest is having to pay $3.29 a gallon when a large portion of that is going into some a-hole CEO's pocket just because they had a "problem" at the refinery.

ha the worst part is that the companys don't need to charge that much, the cost of drilling, refining and delivary is no where near that much. There was an interview with a CEO of EXXON last year and he was asked why was there such a large increase in fuel prices he said " for no other reason than the fact that the market can support it and people will pay it"

WHAT ?!? I NEVER saw that around here. Where was that going on, and were people dumb enough to fill up? Come on now.

The day it took $15 to fill my MOTORCYCLE I knew it was getting bad.

I remember it quite clearly, at the time I was working for a lumbermill in the shipping department and for about three days they didn't send anything out because literally every gas station in the area was gouging prices at the pump. Once a truck got down below a 1/4 tank they parked it in the back lot and waited for prices to drop. And you don't always have the choice to "not fill up," not everyone works at a job that is a mile or two from home. If that were to happen now I'd be looking at paying over $100 to fill up or take vacation days until the prices came back down as I do at least 400 miles of driving per week.

Pretty much, the way I see it is what goes around comes around. Gas stations price fix all the time, such as the common tactic of upping the price by $.10 or .15 cents on Thursday night and keeping it artifically inflated through the weekend, or jacking prices around major holidays.

Plus its not like the people who bought the gas at $.33/gallon were outright stealing it...that's what the pumps were charging. Can anyone on here honestly say that if you heard a gas station had gas for next to nothing you wouldn't jump on it?

viney266
12-09-2007, 01:38 AM
No, not stealing, but it is Dishonest at the least. I am at least happy to see the guy didn't get canned. The owner admitted it was an honest mistake even she could have made. Remember the GAS companies are getting rich. I don't know about the little gas station down the road getting all that rich.

^^^ Hmm, they didn't do that crap around here after 9-11, but they sure did for Katrina, what a bunch o crap ...75 cents in one night.

Here in canada after 9/11 gas prices rocketed.. Some place were even pushing 2 dollars a liter.. didnt last long but still...

Remember the gas embargo of the 60's or was it 70's dont be suprised if history repeats itself...

yea gas around here is like 3.29 so about 3 a gallon is what they are paying and the taxes added in is like the remaining 30 cents so thats how i got that i just hate explaining stuff

and i work at a gas station that my uncles owns and his cost is about 3-3.19 depending on the day currently so yea whoever said adding a dime is about right

around here after 9/11 and katrina highest it was was 3.89 but we live far away from ny and the south so it prolly didnt affect us AS MUCH

Wow, I go to Triggs every year. That area is where my family goes camping. It really doesn't surprise me. The town is unincorporated and is packed full year round. By this I mean it is all tourists. I can only home one would not be dumb enough to do that in your own home town. That it the local grocery store also.

I would feel like a bucket of a$$ holes walking in there after i pulled somthing like that.

You know that's interesting...I was looking at it from an outside perspective and I could understand why people were doing that.

But thinking about actually doing it myself...I would immediately understand that it was a great mistake and I would probably just watch in amusement to see what happened next.

If I had filled up and then realized it was that price, well then it's hard to say exactly what I would do but I do consider myself quite honest so I might just have to say something...

^^^ Yeah, I think I would ,too. Its one of those things you hate to do, but I"d prolly go in the next day and offer up the difference. This is the thing everybody misses in todays go go , Dog eat Dog world. IF you actually went back and payed or at least offered to pay. You would be taken care of FOR LIFE in that store. NOW< how much would THAT be worth in the long run?
