: Just courious.. Does anyone know..
ryanrage 11-15-2007, 01:53 PM Where I can buy (new or used) a 2.0L SVT Focus engine? I'm looking to mod out my 86' EXP, and that would probably be the best suited motor (at least in my opinion). The transmission won't really be a problem to get and fit on, just need the motor.. Thanks for any help that will be given to me =]
DURATECoftheDesert 11-15-2007, 03:13 PM I don't know where to find an SVT engine new or used, I was GOING to say ebay; but I am a big anti-ebay person.
I know Cosworths website crates brand new european tuned duratec engines, that is alot better than finding a needle in a haystack. There crates are prices at around $8,000 or something; Craigslist is also a needle in a haystack find for SVT engines.
Jdouglass 11-15-2007, 05:19 PM http://car-part.com/ try this website i had good luck finding a low mileage tranny for my 66 Mustang and you can search by area ..or nation wide i just plugged in Engine on an On an 02 Focus SVT vin 5 and came up with 2 pages of listings with phone numbers lots of low mileage ones and reasonable on price you just gotta ask them what happened too the car or get a VIN # and try running it thru your local ford dealer see what the damage claim was

Jdouglass 11-15-2007, 05:46 PM wait...youre putting a svt focus motor in your explorer? wtf
no not the Explorer... Ford Ran an EXP in the 80's kinda like an escort might even be the same thing
thats what i was looking for
For a long time, some were adamant that the letters stood for “EXPerimental"; others said that Ford marketing executives just thought it was a cool combination of letters and wasn't intended to really mean anything. However, according to an article published in Popular Mechanics (March 1981), the letters EXP are supposed to stand for Erika Project Personal car (Project cars are designated X). The "Erika" came from the codename from the European Escort.
stivo 11-15-2007, 05:50 PM Isn't the exp like an old escort? That car part site is pretty cool! You have to know exactly what you need though... intake manifold code, etc.

Mr.Bergner 11-15-2007, 09:11 PM Whoa, it's like a mustang / escort mix
ryanrage 11-15-2007, 10:42 PM deff an interesting car. i picked one up for nothing, but the 115 hp engine just won't cut it.. it's a stone. [xx(] a motor around 170hp would pep it up a bit, and maybe get some tq out of it.. its my project car, so we'll see how it goes. hopefully it'll be pretty quick, after a few weight stages, it'll be around 2k lbs. hopefully less. [:)]
ryanrage 11-15-2007, 10:44 PM also, the zetec engines bolt on without much of a pain. after some minor mods, it'll fall right into place.
LouOrangeSVT 11-16-2007, 01:13 PM good luck with the mods!! looks like it will be a great project car...
EggYolkBill 11-16-2007, 01:41 PM I used to own an '82 EXP. That old Escort motor is an interference motor. The dumb part is that the timing belt also ran the water pump. So, when the water pump fails it rips the timing belt and causes motor interference. In other words, the pistons come up and hit the valves, in turn bending the valves. This happend to mine but it ran with bent valves like that for over 3 years. It didn't run perfect but it started on the first click everytime.
The EXP stands for EXPerimental. Originally it was just called EXP but the last couple years or so it was renamed to Escort EXP. It's basically an Escort with no rear seats and a shorter roofline. It is a hatchback though.
WitchCitySVT 11-16-2007, 08:15 PM I heard that the old SVO engines were an easy swap for the Escort. Just a thought.
