This may be a stupid question, but I was driving home today and wondered if one brand of gas was better than the other (Exxon, Shell, Walmart, ect...). You always here about all these things they put in your fuel to clean the engine, injectors, and fuel system. I was just wondering if anyone new if any of these items actually work, or are they full of it. Thanks.

I never worry about where i buy my gas. You never know if it's truly bad or not. The additives...I'll stand behind the fuel injector cleaner, that's about it.

i only get my gas from Mobil, Chevron, or BP. i dont know why but i stay away from Walmart and Costco gas.

shell or chevron.....87 octane if stock...or 91-93 if tuned for the octane #.
the v-power(shell) and techron(chevron) addatives do wonders above the standard cleaning detergents of cheaper gasoline.

usually shell or esso. for a while i used premium, but realized i was throwing away money so now it's regular.. i think any of the big names will perform just as well as any other and have similar if not identical additives.. i just avoid the no name gas stations..

It depends on what I'm filling. My old truck, or my miata? Anything will do. Something else> I look for the top tier gasoline companies ( do a search on the web for top tier or tier 1 gasoline)

I think all the gas companys are full of shit an "say" that there gas will help your car but really it doesn't they just want you the american people to buy there gas it's a whole mind game they play with you. i go out an buy like injector cleaner an other items maybe once every 2 months.
shell for 91 octane the 76 gas staion for 101 octane and vp 55 gal drum from the shop for C116

i dont know if they have esso in the states but thats where i always get my gas from. one of my brothers friends works for imperial oil and when the company that tests the fuel comes in with their $10,000 machine to test the quality of the gas, they don't take it back because they don't know how clean the machine is or not. so my brothers buddy ends up with 300gallons of free gas every 6 months or so lol. i occasionally fill up with pioneer if im in the area becasue its so much cheaper sometimes than esso, and being in canada that few cents makes all the difference.
as for additives i made a thread a while ago asking about them, and i came to a few conclusions.
-government regulations require gas to have a certain amount of cleaner in it for emissions, so additives are not needed (source a)
-91 octane is better for the motor because it burns cleaner, etc etc (source b)
-certain addtives to benefit the fuel system (source c)
so i took all 3 sources to a few guys i know with fofo's, incidently enough, one runs 91 octane only. i compared his exhaust pipe to mine and as he told me, he doesn't get any of the black carbon that i do, so it is true that 91 does burn cleaner.
since im not going to shell out the $ for 91 octane because im not made of money, i looked into fuel addtives, a guy on here mentioned prestone FI cleaner, so i figured for 3.50 i might as well try it. treats up to 75L and my tank is 53(or 13 gallons) so i figured it'll be more concentrated and such. looks like it does work, i poured it in, filled up, wiped off all the carbon from the pipe. been 6 tankfulls now and hardly any black stuff, so it does work.
and thats what i do now...use 87 octane and do a FI cleaner tankful every oilchange. or whenver i feel its necessary.
