: Saw 08's

My local dealer had 2 '08 Focus in the lot yesterday. I was in a hurry, so only took a few minutes to look at them. One was an SE sedan and the other was an SES coupe, both red. I really hate that cheap looking plastic chrome "waste gate" trim they are putting on the front fender. I also didn't like the cheap look of the fog lights. Thirdly, there was no "rub strip" on either car to protect the doors in parking situations, much like all of the new Hondas of the last few years. The coupe looks sort of tall to me, almost like an egg on wheels. It was interesting to see that on the sticker there is a $60 charge for a spare tire. The coupe did not have leather or a sunroof and the list was over $17,000, so I'm curious what a totally loaded model would list for..don't think I will rush in to trade my '07 SES sedan.

That's the problem with economy cars. Lacking the rub strip looks ok on a higher end model like an Infiniti G35 coupe - the lines speak for themselves and you know the car isn't cheap. But the lack of rub strip on a econobox signals 'cost reduction' and no rationalizing to the contrary makes sense on such models.

I am curious if that chrome "wastegate" trim on the front fender is held on by 3m tape, or if there are holes in the body for pins and nuts on the inside of the fender. If that thing can be ripped off of the car, I think it would look 100% better. I don't actually mind the line it forms, but that chrome thing is just gross..

i looked on fords sight and the car is 59 inches tall, almost 5 feet! i dont know the specs of the older styles but my 07 isnt that tall, atleast i hope so lol, but the hatch makes it look like its stretched, not a big bowling ball thats mashed together ya know
but im awaiting the arrival on one at our lot so i can check it out, and curious if that lil fender flare can be yanked off, or like u said it actually helps cool?

Agreed (I sat in one today). I'll NEVER feel that exterior.
(But I'll keep it in mind as an image, should I ever swallow something for which I need to "induce vomiting"...)

Just out of curiosity, I checked the Ford vehicles website to "Build My Focus".
Really surprising to see that the SES coupe is only available in 4 colors!
Red, Silver, Black and Dark Blue. What's up with that?

My father is a salesman at a local Ford dealership. He is schedualing me a test drive. I am anxious. I personally like how they look, and if it weren't for the high sticker price, I would consider trading in on one. The ONLY thing I do not like is that stupid chrome piece on the fender. It kills the car. And is that even standard? Because I swear as I was driving by the dealership the other day there was a blue one w/o that piece.

Also checked the SES Sedan, and yup only 4 colors. Then I went to the SE Sedan, and now you have a choice of 8 colors. Another better idea from Ford. Pay more for a car and get less color choices, wow.

What was it Henry Ford used to say? "You can have any color you want as long as it's black."

I went to test driver a 2007 ST friday night and saw the 08's on the lot. Def not to my liking. To much chrome trim and accents for a small "economy" car. It's like they are almost trying to make it look luxurious. Eh, just my opinion, but def didn't win me over by looks thats for sure.
