What's up everyone?
I have been on i-club (a WRX forum) for quite some time. I have an 02 WRX that I am modding up pretty well right now. This has led me to look for a Daily Driver which I think I've found at the Ford Dealership I sell cars at. It's a 2003 SVT 5 door. Just wanted to say hi and if you have any advice for what to look for on the car I'd be open to comments[thumb]
Looking forward to joining the Focus community and to finally owning a FORD!

Hey Guys : )
Thank you for the welcome [thumb]
Is there anything I should look for while looking at this car? I have read alot on this forum about clutch and factory tune problems. I'm thinking it would be good to get a basic powertrain warranty. Even though this was the owner's car before and they'd take care of me I want to have it officially protected. Any advice on these points?

Get a good warrenty for it, mine hasn't had alot of problems but ihas had a few and it's always nice to have a warrenty to pay for the fixes.
and damn a WRX and SVT in the garage, I'd have to have a freind come over and take turns ricen around town

the TSB with the clutch and flywheel is the biggest thing....around 36,000mi.
that's about it for "watch out for this" kinda stuff.......
-02-03 rims are bent easily, so watch for that.
-the audiophile CD changer jams up on a lot apparently....mine was fine.
I honestly can't think of much stuff off the top of my head.....

I just posted under the general chat section. I'm looking at a 2003 Red 5 door SVT Focus with only 35,000 miles on it at the dealership I work at. It is a local small town dealer so I am very well taken care of but I still want to know what to look for when checking out this car. I've done some homework, so as not to be a newb, and found that the clutch and the factory ECU are the biggest problems. Should I get a used car warranty to cover these or have the techs here check them out?
Thanks for any Advice as I look forward to joining the FF community in addition to my i-club.com WRX community!

I'm loving this forum already! : ) Thanks for the ridiculously quick responses[cheers] Yah it is kinda absurd sounding that I'd have two cars like this. However, I'm currently going VF34, FMIC, on my WRX and want to have a fun car to drive that I can count on when I'm modding the Rex.
Secondly I sell Fords! I'm at an amazing small town dealership and want to tell people that I drive a car made by Ford, in addition that I grew up in a Ford family. It's also nice that I'm getting a ridiculous price on this SVT that was owned by my boss [grinking]

What color in/out is that SVT? HIDs? Just curious.
And you're probably going to get REALLY cynical about selling NEW Fords after owning and driving that SVT for awhile...

What do you mean about getting cynical?
Also, I do not believe it has HID's. I don't think they had this option back in 03 did Ford? It is Red on the ouside with the black and Red seat interior.

Well If its still at the dealership when you test drive it you can listen for a rattle that comes from the clutch when in gear at under 1900 rpms. Its not very loud but it would be loud enough. Check for any coolant leaks and the ecu your worried about can be fixed with a tune. The problem itself is the factory tune being crap. Any other question just ask what you want to know about

Thanks you for the information Egman!
I will definitely listen for the clutch rattle when I check it out today. Either way I'm going to get an extended warranty with it as well[race]
I believe it actually still has one on it. Gotta talk to the bossman himself today to make a deal. Maybe they'll give me a commission for selling the car to myself![:D] [histerical]

Oh one last thing to check is the DSI Clip (Dual Stage Intake) Its known for breaking. Also listen for it clicking over when you start the car. Heres where you can find a picture of the DSI CLIP (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56157&highlight=DSI+Clip) Hope this helps and you will have fun if you get the car!!!!!!
The clutch rattle is NOT an indicator of any problem, its just basically annoying.

If you can find an European Appearance Package (EAP) you will like it better. HIDs, Recarro seats...
It's a fun car for sure.
