Looked at one today. Def not for me. While it is a much needed update to the dated volvo lineup, its still looks to be a volvo, safe, uncomfortable, safe, difficult to work on, safe, lousy controls, safe, and safe.

My place of buisness owns two volvos, one is a fairly new s80 sedan, and a v70 wagon. Both are fully optioned. Neither of these cars impresses me, I find them extremely uncomfortable to sit in any seat, be it driver, passenger, or rear seat. I find the audio, cruise, wiper, door lock and window controls to be a pain in the neck to use, always an awkward operation. Simple tasks like changing light bulbs are way more difficult than they need to be. I find the overall design in them to be lousy, an attempt at being cutting edge and usefull, but a complete failure in both aspects. I would have to test ride one of the new C30's to be sure, but it looks like more of the same to me.

They're freakin' awesome, the Level 2 handles awesomely, I never got to try the Level 1. I've been raving on about this car for months now.

23K for the 1.0 and $27K for the 2.0...the 2.0 offers 3.5 inch exhaust tips, color-coordinated exterior trim, aluminum dash inlays and a premium Pro-Logic II sound system.

The C30's a heck of a car for the money.. Sort of old-school Volvo design meets new-school.

We have a winner!!!!

Isn't it funny how manufacturers have to look to the past for "original" ideas? I wonder if Chevy will resurrect the Vega.....

I just go back from the dealership and all I can say is wow. The Volvo C30 is an amazing car. Lets start off with the good news. A lot of people have made comments about the price tag on the car and it being a hatch back. Let me just say you get a ton of car for the money. This is a luxury car on inside and out. It has all of the options you would expect to find on a luxury car and the quality of the interior is far far superior to our car, the vws , the speed3 and what ever other hatch you want to compare it to. it make the interior of my EAP focus seem like a Geo Metro. So for what you pay you are getting a quality built luxury interior.

As for the performance of the car...I don't even no where to start. The only thing I didn't like was that the model they had on the lot was a fully optioned level 2 car so it had the Geartronic 5 speed auto. It's a great tranny, but I just wanted to put the 6 speed through it's paces. Back to the good stuff. The T5 in the C30 accelerates so smoothly that you hardly realize that its a turbo car. It' has tons of power and you can really feel the torque. 0-60 seemed like nothing and before I knew it I had the car in triple digits with the sales guy laughing his ass off. He said " I've had 3 other people drive this car and your the first to get it past 70".

The handling was amazing. You don't realize how low and wide the C30 is until you see it in person. this car had the " sport lowering kit" so it does sit about an inch lower than the base C30. I know you guys don't want to here this, but we're not going to be saying that we'll take this one in the twisties. This car by far out handles my SVT. I hit an off ramp doing 8 mph faster than I do the same of ramp in my SVT and I was not even use to the car yet.

Now for the bad news. This car was a tester car. It was merely for you to drive so you can decide if you want to pre-order a C30. The real cars are not due to hit the lot for another two to four months. That should give me enough time to get my finances in order to trade in the SVT. if your local Volvo dealer has a tester car I would suggest you go give it a run. I hope you get a good sales person like me who will let you run it through it's paces.

I've always been a Volvo nut, and the c30 hits that sweet spot for me. Trouble is that I'm going to have trouble talking my wife into it.

me: "Honey, see it's like the focus - but it's a Volvo and infinitely more fun to drive"
her: "If you like the focus, why don't we just keep that"
me: "I give up. If we hit the lotto - I get to buy whatever car I want and you don't get to get mad at me over it"
her: "ummm, yeah"

Sometimes it sucks having a wife who doesn't see a car as anything more than a way to get from home to work and back. Then again, her 04 Malibu is evidence of that. (though, I got some joy driving that over loose gravel last night. ssshhhh, please don't anybody tell her about that. I was "testing" the brakes.)

This is a perfect example of why I'm willing to marry my girlfriend, she's into cars as much as I am. And she's hot.

I find it hard to believe that it'll outhandle an SVTF, particularly given a very lukewarm review I read at either Inside Line or Car&Driver. But you drove it and you own an SVT, so...

And while I love the P1800 tip-o-the-hat, and hence the car's butt, I will never buy another two-door car - I far prefer the utility of my ZX5 SVT to my old ZX3, my original Sentra SE-R, my mom's monster-doored Jag XKR and PT Cruiser convertibles, etc., etc. Maybe it's an over-30 thing (my mom excepted, of course).

So, were I in the market, I'd be starting with A3 and Speed3 test drives (maybe even the HHR SS)... But I'm NOT in the market; I still like the SVTF over ANYTHING under $30K. In my book, it may be the best-looking 2-box (1-box?) hatchback design ever (and I'm talking SVT and/or pre-2005 facelift guises here, hate the current and upcoming US models - no offense intended to you 2005-2007 owners...).

But, yeah, yeah, I know: "Who asked you?"

Nevertheless, I'm definitely looking forward to my first C30 sighting, and I'm glad you got your juices (and the salesman's!) flowing on your test drive.

I think you guys need to see the back end in person. I was not that fond of it in pictures, but in person it seems to flow better with the car.

Yeah you can. You can tell Volvo is going after a younger market. They even offer a factory body kit. Not that anyone on here would care, but you can even get a Kayak rack.
