: GTO or SVT
WhiteZX3 05-01-2004, 11:49 AM Ok, I know this is a Focus website, and I am a Focus lover, but I really like the new GTO. I know that the SVT is going away and my dealer has an 04 screaming yellow SX5 with euro package for sticker of 25ish. The GTO has a sticker of 31ish. What do you guys think? I don't have kids, so the 4 leather bucket seats in the GTO are not a factor. It runs the 1/4 in 13.8 bare stock.

uhh that right there is a hard choice.. if i were u id test drive in them both........but for me i really dont know that right there is like a hard question..... but to me the gto is really cool and i do love the svt focus but it is your choice.
CowsGoMoo 05-01-2004, 12:14 PM Get the gto. If it were me though, I'd buy a 350z or an STi though.
spikNspan DAN 05-01-2004, 12:21 PM I'd get the GTO, I was at the drifting shootout at laguna seca and the guy in the GTO tore it up, killed every other car there including the 350Z's and the Viper. You also can't really compare an svtf and a GTO. One is front wheel drive 4 cyl. and the other is a V-8 with rear wheel drive. The GTO would kill an svtf any day of the week, so I pick the GTO.
WhiteZX3 05-01-2004, 12:25 PM I know they are like apples and oranges.
sixty9oz 05-01-2004, 03:00 PM Umm, 25k for a focus? That's ridiculous!
Infra3sv 05-01-2004, 03:15 PM I bought my loaded SVT for $17,000. 25 is ridiculous. you will be the official "most ripped off member" of ff.com.
sixty9oz 05-01-2004, 03:17 PM That's what I'm saying. I got my Euro SVT for about 17,500.
vanace 05-01-2004, 03:50 PM You can get the SVT for lots less than that. Get the svt and mod it with the money you save. Oh.. and the $ you save on gas will get you lots of mods too.
crazy_urn 05-01-2004, 03:54 PM i would go with the svt, although the gto does look like a very nice vehicle. i just love the look and feel of the svt, especialy the interior.
but thats just my personal opinion. drive them both, and see what you want, and what you can afford.
staticprevails4 05-01-2004, 04:00 PM I'd go for the SVt. the GTO is just a crappy one off thats built in from an existing chassis GM uses in Austrialia. There's no suspension changes on it from the Austrialian model, body looks like a slightly redesigned grand am. the only thing its got going for it is the corvette motor and 6 speed manual.
drewzx3 05-01-2004, 05:56 PM cobra woot
GTO handles like a turd, get a cobra.
focus 05-01-2004, 06:15 PM umm for real, the Cobra would be a better comparison
Infra3sv 05-01-2004, 06:28 PM EVO oWn j00!

Evo ain't nothing but a lancer with a DSM drivetrain, if you have ever owned a DSM, you understand why you should never buy one. As far as GTO or focus, also maybe wait till we get the Falcon.

That's enough!!!!!!!! [:D]
WhiteZX3 05-01-2004, 07:48 PM Are we getting the Falcon?
I read that sometime in late 04 or early 05 there will be 2 falcon's one powered by a 5.4 truck motor and the other by a turbo inline 6.
GTo screams wannabe noticed ugly swan of the herd!! Ugly attempt to look like an old mustang from the back. Disgusting, I like the old GTO's and it looks like they didn't even try to make it well worth it. Just my thoughts.

I only wish....*sigh*
I like the looks of the GTO. And I like the looks of the SVT Focus.
BTW, did you know the GTO has no trunk?
Blurry ZX3 05-01-2004, 11:26 PM i'd wait for the redesiged GTO
Bolan 05-01-2004, 11:33 PM i would go for SVT, cheaper insurance, better MPG, very nice in and out, but if u have a lot of $$$ go for GTO.
Just get one of these. (http://jat.zftp.com/cobrajosh.wmv)

I got mine for $16 hahaah j/k
Infra3sv 05-02-2004, 12:25 AM If I was looking for a car in the $25,000 price range I would consider the RX8, Mazdaspeed Miata, GTI 1.8T, & WRX.
rockthezx3 05-02-2004, 01:49 AM If I had to choose between the two, I'd definetly get the GTO.
focaltech 05-02-2004, 05:09 PM How are you comparing cars that cost $ 16-17k and $ 32-33k?
Is that logical?
PapoSwing 05-02-2004, 05:30 PM I know the GTO has over 300 Hp and can go 0-60 in about 5.5 but admit it the thing is UGLY(i'm not talking to anyone in specific)!!!! IT looks like a beafed up GrandAM or something! A friend of mine had a 69 GTO and is completely ashamed of what they have done with this car.
I mean simply taking the Holden and putting a GTO badge on it is not going to be a true GTO! GM needs to reconsider this cars history and passion and make major improvements! And for that kind of money you can get something much better, and definitely less heavy!
WhiteZX3 05-02-2004, 10:13 PM Thanks focaltech, but what the first thread said was the Focus had a sticker of 25 not 17, so its 25 -> 31
Infra3sv 05-02-2004, 11:21 PM I voted GTO. I'd rather be driving a $30,000 car for $25,000 than a $19,000 car for $25,000.
Seb656 05-03-2004, 12:29 AM You can get an SVT for under 20 the gto is not worth what you pay for that I would buy a STi RX8 or 350z
sexy2002svt 05-03-2004, 09:02 AM GTO
2fast4u 05-03-2004, 09:25 AM stay away from the gto, it has terrible wirte ups. the fabrication is cheap, the car doeans tlive up to the hype, and plus it does not look like a muscle car. it looks like a glorified malibu(lol)the svt is a better buy for you, 2 door.
if you want a gto get the old school one and build it!

Thank u!! Finally someone with some sense! [clap] [clap]
COSVT03 05-03-2004, 09:39 AM I would say no GTO and an SVTF with the Ford Performance 2000 Cobra V8 Conversion kit would run you about 35000 when all done. Im sure you could talk the dealer down to 18000 for the SVTF easily.
rockthezx3 05-03-2004, 12:43 PM You should test drive them both, then decide which one you want.
EURO04SVT 05-03-2004, 08:52 PM 2004 SVT 5-DOOR EURO PKG TOTAL MSRP $23,115.00
R&DSVTZX5 05-03-2004, 09:03 PM I too have heard bad things were written and stated about the GTO, although it would be your decision on what you decide to purchase.
Me I would go with a Cobra. [;)]
